im thinking of selling my ep3... and i want to get something that i can make fast, but cheaper. i'm just looking to figure out the best swap without going F/I. i want to build up the motor, and i want to be in the 13 second range... more potential would be nice... maybe a little faster. K series too much trouble?? i was thinking of a b18c1.. and also, the best tranny? thanks a lot. any info would be great.

Wow that's open ended, anyway i guess it really depends on your budget. a b18c1 is a good place to start, GSR trans, and LSD and plenty of potential. If i had the option to have kept my EP3 or do a DA I would stay with an EP3, it may take a little longer to save but it would be worth it. you'll probably have to turbo the DA to make it in the 13s, well at least around here (NM) we would 5200 elevation, and yeah a K series is still pretty expensive and you would have wished you kept your ep3 anyway...

You'd be surprised how easily a DA can make it in the 13's. You don't have to boost to achieve everything.

EP3's are ugly as sin, good move on the DA. Probably cheaper on insurance too.

honestly iam in the same boat as you are and iam looking for a potent project.... and so far what ive decided to do is a...

B20vtec....

B20b- 8:8:1.... $600 for a long block from hmotors.com (low boost)
B20z - 9:6:1.....$750 also long block from hmotors.com

B16 head off ebay.... $250-400

now you can swap trans or keep the LS trans and would work perfect if you plan on doing this as well as on boost....

but a simple $1000 swap you can get near the 200hp range with a good tune.... which in my opinion is a hellova deal....

iam personally not stopping there.... iam going for cams, intake mani, and 8psi....block will be bored .20 over as well....

so there are endless options.... but all depends on the budget you have to play with

there's a lot more to a b20v than just the head and block, fyi.

you can make some real nice numbers with a na b18c, but the same goes for a b20vtec. its all about how much money you can put into it. i have a b20z block/b16a head dc integra that has stock bottom end with bolt-ons and some head work and i would say its pretty comparable to a similarly modified dc2 gsr. it seems to have a little more grunt down low but a little less top end. i would recommend either motor for your DA project, im sure either one could easily put you into low 13s after a little work. i would rather put my money into a da any day compared to a heavy and ugly ep3.

even on low boost a b20 wont last too long. The cylinder walls are too thin to support anything more that about 4 psi. The only way i could justify a b20vtec turbo would be if you got the motor built right with new dowl pins and if you got the block sleeved. I wouldn't even consider boosting a b20 without sleeves.

hmm.

read a thread on g2ic about a dude boosting his b20, 14psi for a lil over 2 years...

you posted the most generic reason not to build a b20... thin cylinder walls blah blah blah...

granted anything is possible with a good tune. I've seen a type-r put down 424whp. but not everyone here can get a tune like that.
