hey guys i need some help here and im new here too. i wanted to know what would be best for my b20 a gsr head or a type r for what i know type r is stronger but i also have a gsr tranny on it..

type r head sure, its factory slightly ported and polished and has some nice cams for all motor, only thing is it'll cost you a pretty penny to get your hands on one, gsr head is nice too, good flow characteristics, and smaller combustion chambers (slightly) probably easier to find then a type r head

transmission doesn't matter as much for comparison to the head, sure it wouldn't hurt to have the acceleration of the type r transmission but the gsr trans will do just fine, and it'll be better for highway cruising

it all comes down to money, and for the head if you really wanna spend the money on the type r go for it, but its costly if you can find one, just get a b16a head and put that on

A type r head is basically the same as a b16 head with more aggressive cams. So you know what I would suggest,

Transmission is extremely important and the GSR is the most versatile,

ITR head isnt the same as the b16, its just made from the same casting. ITR heads have dual valve springs, higher lift/longer duration cams, mild hand port on the intake side. You can get one with all internal components from an Acura dealership (un-assembled) for roughly $1600. Gsr trannies are great, as stated by my nj representative above, are very versatile.

Yep, but for the cost of a type r head, an upgraded b16 head is a little more feasible for someone a budget.

I agree, though after doing a lot of searching myself, I did find ONE ITR head for $550. I never got to see it though, so I didn't bother, but the price was the best I had ever seen. Still, I went with a '99 B16 head and now it's ON TO THE MACHINE SHOP! Really though, a B16 head will be MUCH easier to find and a LOT less expensive. Are you planning a straight up LS/VTEC, boosted...what are your goals?

average b16 head with dizzy - 500-600 on the street. Now take it to a machine shop and have him port it, grind the valve seats, put new stronger valve springs, retainers, guides, valves and get itr cams new. What do you think that would cost? ;O Think about it. All that down time waiting for parts, than more down time at the machine shop. Dollar for dollar, I would just buy the ITR head. Its good up to 9k and its even sweeter when its all brand new. Even comes with 01 itr cams. Bottom line, you WILL spend more money building it. He is building a street car, not a full blown race car.

hmm yeah i was planning going b20 vtec but i wanted to know wut was better for it . so i guess ill try the b16a head and yeah its much easier to find than a type r head

I am doing a b20 ls v-tec swap right now, I dont mean to change the subject but can anyone tell me what computer comes in a stock 94 dx 1.5, i cant find a v-tec computer anywhere. I cant get to my car to find out, if I can i wanna burn my stock computer to v-tec.

p.s. I went with a b16 head but i wanted a gsr tranny, stuck with an ls. Anyone know how a ls v-tec runs?

Oh by the way I have some parts i need to get rid of. Vis carbon fiber hood oem, megan racing headers, aem intake and msd ignition coil and distriberter cap. I want $650 for all of it. Its off of a 94 civic dx, all in great shape I just dont need the parts cuz i am switching to the b20. I live in Northeast Tennessee close to Johnson City.

I believe it's a P06 Mr. Jackenstein. If I'm wrong,, that's because I didn't use the "search" feature. :D

alright so i own a 1993 honda civic si hatch, i'm lookin into some serious work, price is not the biggest issue, more for performance than anything, i want to do a b20 swap, but not sure what heads to put on it. i also need to kno what options i've got for a transmission, is it just the gsr or are their any on the market that i can pick up other than that? i also am thinkin of skunk2 on the top of my list for several internals but need a few more guides for other parts. n1 exhaust from some company who knows, and moer than likely greddy for my turbo, aem for ems and fuel rail, skunk for my cams, crank, and intake manifold, maybe dc for heads but we'll c. just hit up on here or my email or somethin give me a few ideas would be appreciated.

 WOW! And on that note Im off to bed.

ya i jsut re read that shit for the first time and it didnt come out even close to what i meant to say, sounds a bit fucking stupid i will agree one hundred percent. might have been a lil drunk so thats my excuse. what i was saying is that after realizing it i'm putting the gsr head on it not sure why i even mentioned it. but as far as transmissions go what are my options, could prolly get a built gsr from gearspeed but what else could i be looking at? ur right tho i dont kno alot about cars, and i'm not really really young so i dont have much excuse cept i didnt get into cars until recently and i dont hang around a shop often nor do i have many friends that are mechanics and actually kno what they are talking about. i did find a b20 already tho. so ya, got the gsr head, je pistons, skunk2 crank and cams, new springs retainers and all its ready to go, bored out not sure what the specs are tho waitin on the word. but all port and polished ready to go for the most part. gonna stomp a greddy turbo kit in it and trying to find a solid company for an n1 exhaust, prolly apexi but who knows. so ya stop shitting on me for not bein a car junky, wish i was, let me work on that personal problem. would appreciate an intelligent response to help me out on this one rather than "sorry u dont kno shit go fuck urself" thanks alot most appreciated, peace.
