Hi all, new to the forum. I've got a 95 Del Sol Si with a blown motor, D16Z6 Vtec with 5 speed. I will be using it as a daily driver so first priority is MPG.
1) What motor do you have and what mod's
2) What type of gas do you use-regular or premium
3) What MPG

3)i get about 35 MPG
hope i could help

'90 Hatch

2) 91 Octane

Single-cam VTEC engines don't require premium fuel anyway, so I don't know why you'd even consider using it at all...

To the OP: How much money are you looking to spend on an engine?

If it's anything other then another D-series motor, then you're going to need to swap in a new transmission as well. If I were you I would just look for another D16Z6...

I don't have much money (she thinks I spend too much, that's why I'm in the dog house) so MPG is priority right now. I have looked on ebay and craigslist. It seems there are a lot more D15B motors than the D16Z6???? The tranny is good, just need a motor that will be a direct swap. Are there any mod's that would increase mileage (increased power would be a bonus).

The previous owner did an oil change and didn't get the old filter gasket off. He lost oil on the interstate and a rod came through the side. Ouch.

Yeah I wish it was a head gasket. Hey, I got a really dumb question. How can I see your reply without having to refresh?????

Ah well, ok then. What is your experience with buying motors off ebay?

Or Craigslist. You can sometimes find pretty good deals on there.

No big hurry, my accord is running good. I'm just anxious to drive my "new" car. What kind of mileage do you think I'll get with stock?

Do the modified engines get lower mileage because you got your foot all the way to the carpet? I'd do the same too if I had a fast car.

There is some truth in that,:D but think abouit it...it takes what to make more HP, fuel thats right. A stock D will be about the best bet for high MPG.

I regularly get 27 to 28 with my Accord (97 EX V6) and have gotten just under 30 when I really pay attention and drive like grandma (that is hard to do though). I've heard some say that they put it in neutral going down big hills but isn't that hard on the drive train when you put it back in gear?

I doubt you'll ruin your engine or tranny, but you can ruin your brakes. A lot more force is needed to stop the car with that much momentum. BRAKE FADE.
