If it's a true Type-R the block will be stamped with B18c5 (USDM) or B18c (JDM). But you could have easily found this out had you first googled it or done some searching.

well i did but im new at this swap thing and i saw some things that dident make sence like my d16y7 has stampt pe2 on the block by the intake and my ecu matches that .my swap block has b18c on it and stamped p72 by the intake and i have a p73 ecu.and i look up ecu and ap73 goes with a 96-97 b18cr and a p72 goes with a18c

look at the casting in the head, right above the exhaust ports.. if it says pr3 then its a type r head.. it it says p72, its a GSR

yeah thats the way to go because the type r and gsr in japan both say b18c

That's not a 100% way to identify them as the B16A also has PR3 stamps, but that's because the head is basically the same, which would also explain the years being different, the bare head was probably produced earlier than the car.

without ripping open the motor and checking everything its as close as he's gonna get to knowing.. unless he wants to take off teh exhaust manifold and look for the factory port job

True. Chances are it is what is, what I said was more for just general info.

what would i be looking for when i pull it off.i will be pullong it off soon to put the turbo on it.

You'd be looking for soemthing that you probably wouldn't be able to see anyway, a light factory polish. I wouldn't worry about it.

no its not turbo boost hits at one time super chargers are more constant boost

but a b16a isnt stamped on a b18c :D
unless the previous owner took a jdm gsr and put a b16 head on, this is a real type r

and b16a and b18c-r ARE THE SAME head, but the type r comes with a factory port on the intake side. internals are different, like dual valve springs in a type r, and different cams.

there is a factory port and polish on the exhaust and a porting job on the intake side of the head
