I want to put the dohc d16a1 head from an 87 Ac Tag onto my stock EC1-Si d15a1 block. I have the complete head/intake/exhuast/throtle body asembly. I want to know if anyone has done this before. I'm pretty sure the bolt pattern is diff. but i have to ask before i need to go and buy the d16a1 block and just put it in. I thought it might be cool to try and have dohc d15 in my rex. Thoughts, comments, sollutions... let me know:confused:

I doing this on a low budget , so my only option is the local j/y at the moment... but for the right price i would buy a zc... were can i get one that is trustworthy?

Actually you'd want the complete D16A1. This is going in a 84-87, correct? The DOHC ZC is similar to the D16A1, but the DOHC ZC is more like the newer D-series(+88, has to do with mounts, ECU/control, and transmission). There's plenty of write-ups for D16A1 into 84-87 CRX/Civics.

If you sell what you currently have, you may have enough to make up the difference. The D16A1 is an EASY swap into this chassis.

INCORRECT

there is a browntop vacuum advance ZC (130hp) that looks just like the D16A1 (113hp) from the 85-87 JDM/EDM Si's...I just sold mine:

IMG00040.jpg

either way, its a bolt in swap..just have to change your front spindles to 86-89 Integra ones

yeah i saw that.... man , i have an 87Si and i know the d16a1 is derect.... i looked at that swap on ebay too... wish i could have bought it ..... i'm a bit of a machanic so i know about the crx can take the direct swap from the 87 Ac Tag (wich i also have one) but what every-ones saying is , is that i can't put the dohc head on the d15 cuase the head bolts won't line up right?
Or is there somthing else? ......... And from what i hear the d16a1 (87 brown top) wich i have , and the same year zc are only diffrent in that there cams are diff. and mabe the t/b and ithink the stroke and bore... so i can make my d16a1 into a zc i just need the cams and i can do the bottom end at the machine shop.... so if any one knows were to buy a good used Jpn. 87 ZC or the cams and other zc parts .... let me know

:dunno:n OK.... so lets get this striaght , every-one asumes that since im a:newbie: to this forum , that i dont know a valve spring from a suspension spring or a push-rod from a piston rod and that all my mods have been done by some guy that i happily hand obcene amounts of money over money to and just sit with a stupid smile on my face like:cowboy: "jee , thank's a whole lot mister for maken my car coooool." WELL...... i'm not a:fr: I've done all the SH!T on my car myself , wich includes (but not limmited to) hf tranny, new(not referb.) axles , polished pistons , fully rebuilt head(new valves, springs , retainers , polished cams , new oil seal on cam shaft , new valve seals) , new ITM all metal head gasket with hi temp head gasket copper spray , adjusted valve lash for optumum performance , new cap&rotter , boche plat.4 sparkplugs , new clutch - presureplate - relese bearing , and i reserfaced the stock flywheel on a brake machine(BY MYSELF) with the exception of polishing the cams, grinding the deck on the head, and cutting the valves ..... oh yeah and i gutted it to the firewall wich still has the anoying sound deadening mat. on it (realy want to throw that sh1t out!)
and i know anyone with enough time and half a brain-cell can gut a car but i look back at the time part , and consider it a littile bit note-worthy .... so in conclusion i'de just like to say that i know this is long , and i'm sure i misspelled everything but i was wondering if we could put all that aside for now and get down to business. CAN I GET SOME F@CKIN HELP HERE PLEASE !!!

It won't work why? The head bolts won't line up right? ok .... does anyone have some zc parts links or a link that i could get a whole 87 zc motor? I want to keep it as orig. as possable. I know that the d16a1 is a direct swap into the rex and that the type r in Jpn. came with the zc in it useing the same mounts.... i love hondas , so interchangeable..... soooooo , umm , yeah ..... :imfucktard:that needs some help and some info. from some people that know more than i do, and want some real help!

sorry, I didn't read the 1st post...just jumped on the ZC comment :)

you can with an 84-87 EW block...what you're looking at is the Hydra conversion:

Ew/d16 Hybrid - Red Pepper Racing

-the big thing is you want to use an 88-89 head and convert the car to run an electronic advance ignition...theres no way to reprogram the ECU to adjust the fuel/timing on the vacuum advance motor for the DOHC head

so the mounts are the same right... i just got to get the block...
hey but i was looking and the d16 d15 have the same head gasket ....

yeah, same mounts

all the 84-87 Civic/CRX motors use the same headgasket as the 86-89 Integra

I realize the 84-87 DX/HF's had a "D15A..", I'm just used to anyone referring to a D15 as an 88+ motor which is a completely different animal..its easier/less confusing to just call them EW's (same engine, different designation)

EW1 1.5 8V SOHC 3bbl Carb 1488 76hp@6000rpm 84tq@3500rpm '84-'86 Civic (USA)
'84-'85 Civic/CRX HF (USA)
EW1 1.5 8V SOHC 3bbl Carb 1488 58hp@4500rpm 80tq@2500rpm '86 CRX HF (USA)
EW1 1.5 8V SOHC 3bbl Carb 1488 70hp@6000rpm 84tq@3500rpm '86 Civic (USA)
EW3 1.5 8V SOHC PGM-FI 1488 91hp@5500rpm 93tq@4500rpm '85 Civic/CRX Si (USA)
EW4 1.5 8V SOHC PGM-FI 1488 91hp@5500rpm 93tq@4500rpm '86 Civic/CRX Si (USA)

OK... yeah i was reading awhile back and i remember i had to check to see if it was a EW or a D series. But that was like last year when i saved the car from being owned by an oldfart who just used it for the gas milage:driver2: So yeah ... For sure its a d15a3 and i have the head and the entire topend from a d16a1.... when i take the head off of the d15 three threaded studs stay in the block(they hold the head down with nutz instead of a bolt) should i remove those and use the head bolts for the d16 ...... or what.... what do you think is more important the torque to the block or the torque to the head? Sooo... anyway u think i should get the ignition and the ecu from an 88-89.... that sounds great cuase vacum advance sucks!!!

the D16A1 head bolts won't work - they are 11mm diameter and the holes in the block are for 10mm diameter bolts/studs

Still lookin' for a ZC?

If you have about $1400, here's one. eBay Motors: JDM 1st gen.Honda Civic E-AT ZC M/T Engine Set 84-87 (item 280309767518 end time Mar-04-09 22:25:09 PST)

Oh, and you'll also need this to make it REALLY work eBay Motors: Honda Civic CRX 1.6 dohc ED9 ECU PM7 d16a9 d16 zc (item 170287289947 end time Feb-12-09 04:19:03 PST)

That brings the total to about $1600 for a complete REAL ZC into a CRX/Civic. You'll also need the shift linkage, which you can get from a 1G Teg.

Have fun!!
