hey guys,

first off i'd like to say that i have a 420whp WRX, so you guys don't have to tell me to save up and get a real car...i got one :)

second, i plan on buying a GSR integra for my daily driver, i had a 97 civic and i loved driving it to and from working (talk about getting good gas mileage).

So basically, what i want is a quick daily driver i can have fun with... but this is a budget build.

from doing research and my own thoughts heres what i came up with for what i want:

GSR (94+) integra w/ JDM DC Integra SiR-G Front End Conversion
i'll just be giving it a DIY paintjob, no worries there...

I/H/E
cam gears
chipped and/or vtec controller

from what my friend told me that will put in the mid 14s with good driving and a decent launch, if so that will be great... anything to back this up?

also, what type of suspension mods do these cars like that are considered best bang for your buck? for example on WRXs swaybars make a world of a difference and are very cost effective... what is it for integras?

thanks,

-Joe

Gsr's are heavy, boosting it would be the most cost effective way to run in the 13s.

When you're talking suspension are you asking about straight line handling for the strip or for going around corners?

In a GSR with slicks and a good driver you will need more than 200hp to the wheels to break into the 13s. My suggestion is boost it.

cornering... i just use 13 second 1/4 mile times as a way to measure acceleration... drag strip means nothing to me.

when you say heavy, how heavy? this is a daily driver so reliablity and gas mileage are very important... just want a fun quick car that can take a corner :)

the GSR im looking at has a spun bearing so i would probably do a b20 bottom end with a GSR head, i do all my work myself so labor is not an issue.

this is one i was looking at, has paint damage and a spun bearing... what is a fair price do you guys think?

Heres what I would do:

-Source a b20 bottom end - beef it up with some arp hardware.
-Find a used jrsc kit that will fit a gsr - get an 8 psi pulley
-get some dsm 450cc injectors, and chip/tune the stock ecu with something cost effective like Crome.
-Enjoy rock solid reliability and one of the sweetest power curves possible out of a b-series.

what do you mean by ARP hardware?

ARP is a company that makes mounting hardware for engines (i.e. head bolts/studs, etc.). If you're thinking you might want to boost then ARP hardware certainly wouldn't hurt, and if you plan on taking the engine part anyway, might as well...

Call ARP and say "I want every fastner you have for Honda B20 block with a GSR head." Problem solved. No VTEC controller, theyre a waste of money if your cams are factory. +1 one Crome. +1 on boost. Source a DSM kit (Turbo, injectors, misc. fittings, some piping to hack to size, etc.). Or, piece a kit togather and boost it to about 300 horse. Itll be fun, fast, and assuming its done right, reliable.

right thats what i assumed but as everyone knows... assumption is the key to all F-ups :)

What about an N/A build for high 13s.... B18 + b16 head and bolt ons w/ tuning?

i'm just trying to explore my options here as money is a factor considering its a daily driver.

Also, what are good suspension mods for the twisties?

The amount of money you would spend to get a N/A car to the 13's is more than you would spend on a turbo install. And if it's tuned well, it will be just as reliable.

what about low 14s then?

to be honest, the reason i want a budget n/a build is so i can beat the slow ass mustangs around here with a bolt on NA honda lol

Like it was already said...You won't hit 13's, and probably not even low 14's, without a complete rebuild. The amount of money you are gunna put into getting it to that point, it's well worth boosting. If you don't want people to know you are boosted, or at least make it slightly more subtle, have it recirculated.

CRVtec with boost is sex on wheels. Sex with ten virgins at once. Without a condom.

^ Lmao. This is the truth.

If your just aimin to beat Mustangs, Mach 1's are the most common fast Mustangs to worry about. The Cobras that actually do make good numbers arent very common, especially on the street. So anyways, Mach 1's are mid to high 13's. Like George said, to get there boost will be the most cost effective route. Period.

Sounds like you need to just do some homework first. While yes you have a fast Subaru, you don't seem to know much about Hondas. Just like you wouldn't want me to blow up perfectly good Subaru parts due to a lack of knowledge, I really don't want to see you do the same with Honda parts that are getting harder to come by.

It also sounds like your budget is more of just a lack of money. Project cars never come in under budget, and rarely come in at budget. Extra cash is always needed. Especially for a daily driver. Example: Say you come in right on budget. Get it tuned. It's running great. Then you come outside in the next week and there is a puddle of oil under the car. You'll need it fixed and quick. If your out of cash, your S.O.L.

this is hasn't been said yet, but are you for sure stuck on a GSR Integra? My advice would be since you plan on rebuilding the motor anyways, get a lighter car...if you want to do a CRVtec, do it and put it in an Eg hatch...I don't know the exact number's you will throw up with that, but a Hatch with a CRVtec, with Ctr or Itr Cams and Intake Manifold. Do your I/H/E and I think you should be pretty Happy...I am not sure if you will be beating Mach 1's or not but besides boost, if you want bang for your buck without completely rebuilding try that... someone up here might be able to give you more information about it, but that's my advice

He's got a point. A lighter car would be faster and get better MPG. Something to think about with a low budget DD.
