I'm a little new to working on Hondas but not cars in general. My 92 accord 5 speed (over 300,000 miles) doesn't like to shift. In cold weather if it's not in the gear you want to go when it's first started it's VERY hard to pull it into gear, doesn't like to down shift (into first epically!). Clutch seems fine. My cables don't seem to have any adjustment at the shifter. What is it bad syncros.? Also how much trouble is it to put an automatic in as I have a parts car? Bad idea?

Check your transmission fluid.

The automatic swap would be simple, but just changing the fluid is much easier.

Nope, transmission fluid. There is reason Honda sells two different kinds. ATF and MTF.

Thanks. The gear lube is full. Would a change of the oil help? I didn't think it would make much of a difference. The hard shifting is worse when cold.
Any input on putting the automatic trans. in? Other than i would prefer a stick I don't care unless it's a ton of hassle...Isn't there a computer box somewhere that has to come with the autotrans.?

Definitely change the transmission fluid. Some people change it every 3 oil changes or even closer intervals. Don't use those gear oil though, stick with Honda MTF or Synchromesh-specific fluids.

The TCU is under the passenger seat I think, and yes, you'd need it. I think you'd have to wire that in too.
