I just bought a 1997 Accord EX(Canadian) 2.2(non Vtec) with the automatic transmission. I paid $1200 for this 222000kms (132500miles)car and just paid $250 for a identical 96 accord (390000kms (235000miles),with a twisted off camshaft ,but it still has most of the parts I need to get my 97 on the road. This being my first Honda, I have questions that my Haynes manuel does not answer.
1st: I plan to change the transmission fluid, but is there a filter to change?
2nd: Are twisted off camshafts a common problem with the 2.2?
3rd: What advise/warnings do I need to know to get the best results from this car as I hope to get a few good years of use from it?

1. Filters for these trannys are internal and non-serviceable.
2. What do you mean by twisted off cam shaft?
3. Like any car maintenance is the key to long life, If this is a daily driven vehicle under city conditions trans fluid every 15,000 miles, highway car every 30,000 miles

camshaft twister

Thanks for the reply to my questions. The camshaft in question did not twist off ( I may have used the sellers own words) as much as it cracked off. I looked more closely at the camshaft to see that it cracked off just inside of the bearing on the belt sprocket side. The timing belt is also busted so the problems could be related.

Indeed. If the timing belt broke, it could cause all kinds of havoc. That very well could have been what snapped the camshaft...
