90 Accord EX-R. When we bought we put new (used) brushes in the alternator for a temporary fix over winter. The voltage light came on again (months later) so we put brand new brushes in thinking that would fix the problem. It sort of fixed it. The voltage only drops when you use power; brake lights, stereo, heater, ect. But when no power is drawn it goes out. The volt-meter says 14 volts on the battery. Is the alternator done? Thanks, Brad

it sounds like it but to make sure you could always go to the part store and have them check it and the battery to

We don't have an Auto Zone though. Lol. I know a place to test it. The battery is a genuine Honda battery about 2 years old. Would it help to test the output of the alternator, how would I do that.

im not sure man ive always just went to autozone down here lol,

We have been driving with it for a couple of weeks now and it seems normal. Just when power is used the voltage light comes on. Otherwise its off. My manual suggests a leak in the system.

We did the Haynes manual check, and 91accordwithwork is wrong, it does help. Lol. Anyway we narrowed it down to two solutions. The alternator is done or the manyal suggests the integrated control unit. As some of you may know we are doing a road trip ot pick up a S2000 next weekend so we need it fixed by thursday. Any comments?

Another thing, when we did the Haynes test I went to unbolt the negative battery terminal and it came off with no effort at all. It was resting there, could that screw things up?

well im thinking about goin to the junk yard tomorow and i have a 90 accord. ill check to see if there are altenators there, if its cheap ill pick one up and send it to you if you cant find something out there if you wanna cover it via paypal...

Hey man I really appreacate it but I'm fine. There is no shortage of autowreckers here so its all good. The last alternator we bought used started smoking black smoke so bad but I guess its hit and miss.:dunno: We'll probably buy a new one anyway if that's the problem.

Does anyone know about the integrated control unit?

yeah, i'd say go crawl through a junk yard, or just order a new one. for NE ohio it's about $125 with a core, but idk how they'd do the core charge if you get it shipped. they do free shipping on orders $75. don't know the exchange rate, and i really don't know how it would work, sorry. maybe you have somewhere cheaper up there. never been, only seen pics. i saw it once, but i was on an island in lake erie on the U.S. side.

There's a place here in town that sells car and truck electrical components at a wholesale price but they only sell to buineses, which is no problem for us. We don't even mind paying high up in the clouds, as long as its fixed.

there ya go. hit them up, oughtta do it before you get a tow-truck escort home.
