Hey guys, I just picked up some of the black housing tyc projectors and one of the complaints I've heard was about the light output with out retrofitting HID's. I might decide to do this sometime in the future but for now I'd like to try some nice high output halogens. I'm planning on upgrading the wiring harness behind the light to make sure nothing fries but I'm worried about the housing itself. I've read on TYC's website that they dont recommend anything over 55W, but most everything outputs more than that. I'm looking at either these:

H1 bulb 4900K HID Super White Racing Hyper Halogen Bulb from Raybrig Japan White Sonic S Series

or these:

Luminics Ultra White Headlight Bulbs (H1)|Luminics Headlight Bulbs|Luminics Lighting Products

Just looking for info from people who have or have heard of people upgrading the halogens in these housings and how they took it. The power consumption from either bulb is 55W but it's the output I'm worried about. Any feedback would be great, thanks!

I might be wrong, but I read that "upgrading" to those superwhite bulbs actually decreases your visibility. You'll get the blue/white hue, but if I were you, I would get some actual projectors and do an HID conversion. I just did it to my EG and it's the nuts. Just make sure they're aimed correctly so you don't blind people/attract curious cops.

I did the same thing, its night and day man..Good luck with everything. O and if you do decide to go with the HID's don't get bulbs over 6000k, anything higher and your light output (lumens) won't be as high, unless your going for the "blue" ricer look that attracts cops like crazy.

yellow i hear is best for visibility.. is this true..

no not totally there best in fog and rain ect ect. the best is 4300k true hid

Yea 4300k bulbs produce around 3200 lumens and have like a brilliant white color. These come stock on most cars with HID's. If you want the best of both worlds as far as color and light output I would go with 6000k, slight blue hue and around a 3000 lumen output.

HonCiv99, how did you do your HID conversion? I'm interested in doing it myself.

It was quite easy actually...Just bought some ebay projectors like these: eBay Motors: 99-00 HONDA CIVIC JDM HALO PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS BLACK (item 200259403571 end time Oct-08-08 19:48:10 PDT)

And then and a Xentec HID kit also from ebay. You gotta be careful tho what kit you get like check how long the warrenty is and what it covers. Ive heard some shitty stories of crap kits that people get off ebay. My kit was like $100, so not too bad. The bulbs that come with the projectors are usually h1's so you just gotta make sure to get the h1 HID bulbs or whatever size it comes with.

Install was a breeze and only took me about 4 hrs. Took off bumper, remove old headlights, install new ones, the conversion kit just plugs right into your stock harness and just have to cut some small holes in the headlight gromet to run the wires through. Alignment is a little tricky depending on the housings you buy. I'm still tyrin to get mine perfect. I should have taken some pics when I installed it, was'nt too into the forums then

Let me know what you end up doing. Good luck!
