so, my normal day was going as it usually does (boring as hell).. mail just passed and like the daily routine i go to check it when they drive off.. flipping through the assortment of junk mail and crap for the previous owners i see an envelope that actually has my name on it.. yay! .. well maybe not, lemme see what it is.. hmm.. something from the county auditor.. yippy i think to myself.. so i sit and open the envelope expecting to see the worst .. dont ask why i felt this way, but i had a feeling.. but that feeling was wrong.. turned out to be a tax refund check for $2400.. wooot!!

time for some screens on my windows.. :D

That is SWEET! Congrats on the surprise refund.

I haven't had unexpected cash show up in years. Last time it was a property tax refund of like $700 that I had overpaid one year. Hell, thats the only time a significant amount of unexpected cash showed up in my mail box.

Ya i got my GST tax refund today but it was only $92.

well, i received something in the mail a while back from the Assessor .. something about a tax exemption .. i didnt pay any attention to it really until a friend of mine asked if i sent in the form... so i filled it out and i guess i got a refund on the taxed paid on the house.. :shrug2: ...

Homestead Credit?

honestly... i think they charged me too much taxes on the house.. they were taxing me for a $315k dollar house.. when i only paid $150k

In Michigan you pay taxes on 1/2 of the assessed value of your property.(Approximately) It doesn't have anything to do with purchase price. Theoretically you would hope to sell for near what the assessed value is, but not in this market, in this economy.
