knuckz new eg

new eg hatch
i plan on swaping my b18 ls for a type r or gsr which one would be better for my 95 eg hatch

I'm assuming that you've looked into pricing for each of these options? Are you looking for the most power? Obviously the type r would be the way to go. But if you want a motor to maybe turbo down the road, that wouldn't be the way to go. It really comes down to how much power you want and deep your pockets are. do some research.

What kinda question is this? Need too know future route, expectations, overall spendability, common man, you throw out 2 engines to swap and one is a regular old gsr and you have some ctr or itr of course its going to be the type r.

i looked into them already i wus just wondering which swap would be better to throw a turbo on n i see it the ct swap and no i aint got deep pockets but i have the money for whatever is needed for both of them swaps

well, if you have the money for whatever is needed, then I would consider that deep pockets.

Regardless, If you're looking for a swap to throw a turbo on, of those two I would pick the GSR. But then again we need to know more info. Are you just gonna slap a turbo on, or do you want to build the bottom end? if you're gonna build the bottom end then really any block will do. I'm a little biased since I have an LS, but I hear too many good things about good cams and good tuning with LS motors over anything Vtec. The nice thing about building a GSR or Type R will be the higher RPM range, although there are ways of getting the same rpm ranges out of any of those blocks. not always easily, but there are ways.

If you ask me, I say you should just find a GSR and slap a turbo on. It sounds like that's what you're interested in. Just make sure you get it tuned by a good shop with crome, or even better with an s200 or s300. There's no replacement for a good tune.

iight well im type new to hondas feel me i have a ls to i just aint really sure what i can do with my eg being its my first honda i can drive i am tryin to make it fast tuned right basically do everything right the first time round instead of having to come back and change something that got messed up feel me so u sayin a gsr swap over the type for a quick boost job with the right tuning and what can i do to my ls to just save me money but keep my shyt up there and keep it moving

If you've got an LS, you can do a few things. I would just boost it. It's already lower compression, so it can handle a little more boost. If you look at dollar amounts and what you're getting performance wise per dollar (I'm an engineer, I do this for a living!), then the LS is probably a better way to go. You can keep your LS and build a bullet proof bottom end before you could buy a GSR motor that's in decent condition and will be willing to take some pounding from a turbo. It's already money more wisely invested. From there you have to do your research on what kind of turbo you really would like to go with. there are too many different setups for me to list them all. Honestly though, If you're looking for a decent daily driver that's still reliable, I'd spend your money making a solid LS, then piece together a turbo setup using a t3/t4 turbo, and you have a LOT of room to work with there. You could easily hit 400 hp. Not too sure how reliable it would be at that point, but you could always turn the boost down as well.

So, long story short, keep your LS. Build it well, Boost it big. This is instead of spending the same amount of money to buy a stock GSR and not be able to throw a very big turbo on it or be able to put much boost through it.

If anyone disagrees with me, please pitch in here.

Agreed, Boost the ls, they love boost and you can always get one at the caryard. Drive your eg and build on the side and dot he research of what you want.

well my boy told me to drop a t3/t4 turbo with an external wastegate so i was planing on doing that but what do you mean by building the bottom end i am kinda new to this stuff but i love it just give me some pointers untill i can get it to a shop and buy a manuel for my car i would really appriciate it man

Well, honestly if you don't know what I mean by building a bottom end, then I wouldn't dive into it. You'd be better off paying a good machine shop or speed shop to build it. What it means essentially though is using forged components as opposed to the stock cast components. They are much stronger and will handle a lot more torture. Mated with good rings, bearings, and maybe even a stroker crankshaft, and you've got a pretty solid monster! The next step up from that is buying a dart block or having your block sleeved. MAKE SURE YOU USE ARP HARDWARE. I can't emphasize that enough.

Honestly though, If you want a reliable setup, rebuild your bottom end (pistons, rods, crank, rings, bearings) using forged components, get the head refurbished with a good valve job, and clean the motor up good, maybe throw some mild turbo cams in, and then get a good t3/t4 turbo setup. Aim for 350 HP. from what I hear with a built bottom end short of sleeving, you can hit that reliably. You'll need to bump up the axles to some stronger ones, upgrade the clutch, ignition, etc. Just remember that the worst thing you can do is go half way. If you're gonna do it do it right. Spend the money and have a reliable setup. You'll be happier in the long run.

iight good lookin out man my brother in law told me the same things and yea im going to get it done at a shop but good lookin out and how much rounghly you think that would cost cause i plan on spending a lot of time on my wip and i do want to make it a monster

I wouldn't recommend 350hp if you only have a stock suspension...well it's doable, but it'll handle like shit.

yea i know it gonna handle like shit cause it do now but i plane on getting a tein basic coilover suspension kit then imma be working from there

type r is higher compression which means if you turbo it your compression is going to get even high which means shit is going to start breaking if you dont build it some how some way.... if you want a turbo car get the gsr your only loosing 20 hp and actually a gsr only puts down like 150 or so the wheel stock that 180 you keep reading about is to the crank... now if you want to turbo it get the gsr and do it right you cant just get a turbo some piping from autozone your buddy who knows how to weld and go to town on it... shit hit google and look up how to turbo and start from there.... but if you want a all motor car commonly called a N/A then go with a good stroker kit like ejclude said crower is the best and also the most expensive..... i personally am going to do a half build on my block(bottom) and a good build on my head and turbo it... i know i need to do more than that guys but just for this purpose this is what you need to start looking into... another thing MOST important dont let your buddy tune your car go to the speed shop in your area and have them do it, they are going to do it right nad will tell you everything you did wrong on your build...... just my 2 cents... then again im usually wrong

Could this post be anymore worthless? The last line says it all. And you realize this conversation is over a month old, right? What was the point of even replying?

And what happened to the boosted S2000 that you supposedly bought?

you want to see the differences in deep pockets and bullet proof heres a nice sight for you.

this is something i do not like doing.but instead of giving you a bunch of flack lie i got as a newb.here is how much things cost if you have no idea what your doing(not to include installs and tuning)to do it yourself is what a tunner truley is.bolt ons are for rick kids and ricers.
