As most of you know, I'm doing some work on my 96 Hatch. LS, OBD2>OBD1 conversion harness, chipped obd1 p75 ecu. EX cluster, everything else is stock.

Got the battery in and figured I'd try all the electrical stuff I did, and it didn't go so well.

Problem:
When I turn on the headlight switch, the ECU makes this wierd and LOUD clicking noise, and the dash lights flicker. Also, the blinkers are working at abnormal/inconsistent intervals. I am going to post a video of the problems I am describing here in a second.

ANY help with this would be greatly appreciated, I just need suggestions because I am lost at the moment, I can't think, I don't know where to begin.

Thanks all

Vid coming in a sec.

Also, head unit will not power on. AT ALL.

The speedometer also jumped up erratically just a second ago. Not sure wtf is going on :(

I have heard that if your power is flickering while the car is running and the head unit is also acting up its your alternator going bad. Thats all i know. Do things run right with only the battery on?

The car isn't running.

Its just battery. So this is with the ignition just in the ACC position.

Thanks man, I got so frustrated tonight that I just put the tools down and walked out of the shop, closed up, and hit the casino.

Won $260 at the blackjack table so that helped my cause, but this still is eating at me.

Checking fuses tomorrow, then I'll look into the wiring.

My friend had a similar problem with his Teg. He converted to OBDI and put in a JDM ITR cluster. After he got it all in/done he turned it to the ACC postion and had the same or close to the same symptons you have. I forget what the problem ended up being, Ill ask him. Do you have all your grounds hooked up? And you did a wire tuck too didnt you, that sucks man, best of luck, hope you get it all sorted out.

Yes, and thank god it was only a headlight harness tuck for the most part.

I'd be interested to see what it turned out to be for your buddy. Let me know man. Thanks :)

Yeah man no joke.

Well I pulled the ECU and popped my OBD2 ECU in, and its still doing the same thing. So its not the ECU. However, I did notice something with my fuel pump cutoff switch, however not sure if this is any part of the problem with the way things have been acting..

When I shut the pump off, no noise doesn't occur.

When I turn the pump on, noise occurs.

Not a whole lot I can do right now anyway, I don't have power anymore lol I popped a fuse somewhere else.. JESUS christ anyone wanna buy a hatch? lol

Haha man you'll figure it out. Just be patient, you'll get it. Double and triple check everything and then check it again. I'm sure you'll find something.

Wowza. I just watched the videos, that is so amazingly weird.

its like theres a really bad short somewhere..what wires did you mess with??
just the headlight wires?

Yeah just headlight wires. Popped a fuse somewhere tonight, no power anywhere. Hopefully I didn't fry the ECU. =/

Cannot be the headlight harness at this point. I unhooked it completely. Still getting the same shit. I have no idea what the problem is.

wow.. that growling is horrible! is this just when u turn the lights on? my stereo in my ef would cut off when i switched the lights on. it was the alternator and the battery had a low charge. enuff to start the car up but not enuff to power everything at once so turn one thing on the other cut off....it sucked

Have you checked every single ground on the whole car?
You know what, I have not. I checked the ones in the engine bay last night, and they need some work. I COMPLETELY spaced the fact that I had painted the bay, and that there might be paint in some of the threads, which = shitty ground.

+1 to your thought as well, I never thought about it, but the battery IS on a charger, but that might not be enough to keep the charge up. I need a new battery anyway, so it sounds like thats on the to do list.
aaand it made a cracklin sound and the turn signals flashed all fucked up'ish
I'm guessing that could be my problem then. Im going to try the battery first, and pray that I didnt murder anything
maybe you got a fucked up conversion harness?
Thats a possibility, I'm thinking thats not too probable though, we'll see what happens. Its always the simple stuff lol
