The tragic saga of my X-Box 360 (kinda long, sorry)

So my 360 is my malfunctioning. Not anything to be surprised about, right? I expected this to happen at some point (or at several points), but what I didn't expect was to get dicked around so much. Thus begins the saga...

My ex-girlfriend (yes, the crazy one who posted naked pictures) bought it for me from Meijer. Meijer's like Walmart or Target if you're not familiar with it. Anyway, they asked if I wanted their protection plan. I said "no, I'll just use the Microsoft warranty if it breaks down." They said "well, you could do that, but with this it will be lots more convenient. If it breaks down just bring it back and we'll get you a new one." So I said "alright, good point." It was only like $40 for the plan.

So eventually I get the three red lights of death. I called the number for my protection plan to file a claim, and found out that I have to send it in to their repair center. This makes me a little upset, because it became apparent that the people at the store either lied to me or had no clue how the protection plan works when they sold it to me.

Whatever though. I asked if their repair center was authorized to be repairing XBox 360s and they assured me that it was. I said ok, they sent a box, and I sent it in. It actually came back relatively fast, and it worked, so I was satisfied. Until a week later. When it broke down again.

So I called them up again and said "hey, you guys repaired this and it's now broken again." This time, the guy told me I should send it in and have Microsoft repair it. I asked him if the fact that I had them repair it first would void the Microsoft warranty. He said no, that it shouldn't. So I called Microsoft's help line to schedule a repair. I asked the girl there also, "will the fact that I had it repaired previously be a problem?" She told me that it wouldn't. Ok fine. They send me a box and I send it in to Microsoft.

About a week later it comes back with a note that they won't repair it because the warranty has been voided. I called to ask for the specific reason why they won't repair it and the guy tells me it's because someone else had obviously tampered with it beforehand.

So now I'm getting pretty pissed. The people at Meijer had assured me twice that their repair center was authorized and that this wouldn't be a problem. The girl I first talked to at Microsoft told me it wouldn't be a problem either, but obviously that was untrue and I wasted my time sending it to them.

Also, to further complicate things, it looks like Microsoft treated the console like shit. When it came back from the first repair center it looked fine, but when it came back from Microsoft it looked like shit. It was scuffed up, they didn't bother wrapping it in a plastic bag, and the faceplate is now missing. It's like as soon as they saw that it had been previously repaired they quit being careful with it and just threw it back into the shipping box and sent it on it's way.

So anyway, after all this, I called Meijer back up, explained everything, and asked how they planned on making this right. Those fuckers want me to send it back in to them again so they can repair it. I guess they have a policy of three repairs and then they'll replace it. I really don't want them fixing it again because they obviously did a piss poor job the first time and they voided the factory warranty.

Suggestions?

Keep sending it back until they give you a new one. Thats what I would do. :dunno:

Yeah I'm guessing that's probably what I'll have to do. Watch though, they'll fix it this time and it will last for a while, and then I'll be stuck with a stupid, scratched-up, warranty voided X-Box. The whole thing just pisses me off. Obviously these people will just say whatever to sell their shitty protection plans and keep people off their backs...

Or you could just suck it up, say fuck you to them, and buy a new one.

While you're at it, buy COD4 and come play online with me and a few of us HS guys.

get a ps3 that way you wont have to worry about the red ring of death. Oh and you get a bluray player, an internet browser, free online community, bluetooth, true high def graphics....the list goes on

The newer 360s had that problem fixed. Mine is a year old and I've yet to have any problems with it.

I coulda bought a PS3, but then I'd only have a total of 7 games to be able to play, with no free arcade or anything really worth the 400 it cost.

riiight.. thats why my cousins ps3 broke within 6 months and they want to charge him $140 to fix it.. bahah... i had my 360 for a while before it did the red ring, i think its because my friend stayed up all night playing WSOP'08.. 2 days after that it broke.. got it back within a week and half cost free.. 360 FTW!

not trying to start an argument here. numbers don't lie and the failure rate is much higher on the 360, that's all.

bring it, your reciept, and as much of the original package back to the store with you.

tell them you paid for a service plan that kept you without it for ___ long.

tell them they will give you a new one right now.

do not accept any excuse at all, but do not be rude.

keep going up the chain of command until you get the store owner if you have to.

mine is a 2g 360, it didnt ring but the DVD drive stopped working.

anyways, you arent supposed to send the faceplate in with the xbox. says so in the M$ instructions that come in the coffin.

It's on my list of things to do! :D

You know, I really would consider that except I've got like close to twenty games for the X-Box. I suppose I could put them up for sale though...

Yeah, I'm thinking this is the route I'll probably pursue. Either that, or I'll just call back to their helpline and take a similar approach...accept no excuses, keep on moving up the chain of command until something happens...

Shit, really? I must have missed that part. I saw that it said to make sure all games and the hard drive get removed...

I had my first 360 red ring, the way I did it was a little sketchy but it worked out anyways.

I went and bought a brand new one, took the new one out of the box, put my red ringed one back in the new box and then took it back to the store the next day. This was probably about 2 years ago I believe. I haven't had a problem with my 360 since.

I've done that with minor items, but nothing with a serial number, lol.

Hope you paid cash!

Cash is the only way to go ;)

They shouldn't have sold me a bad product in the first place. My friend had his Elite RROD on him about three weeks ago. He called Microsoft Customer Service and they told him they'd have a box to ship it back to them to him within 3/5 days. It's already been two and a half weeks and still no box. Great service.

Microsoft SUCKS.

Don't just buy a new one. Take it to the manager, if he can't help, goto his boss until you get to corporate. If they were not an authorized service center, it's not your fault.

:werd: don't let them screw you. If they're a big company with tons of money there is no reason they can't make you a happy customer. What's it to them if they have to eat the cost of a new 360? Especially if it's their fault for lying to you.
