.. yea, so about a year ago i loaned a friend some money.. stupid move..
story goes....

he called me up one day and said that he was a little short on his mortgage payment because his electric/gas bill was really big.. so me being the nice guy i am loaned him the money he asked for.. .. he had promised he'd pay me back within a month when he got paid next.. well it seems that the same thing kept happening every month .. so he had no extra cash to pay me back..
i've contacted him several times about the matter and he tells me next month i should have some money.. well, that kept happening.. every time i talk to him he has some damn excuse for not being able to pay me back.. i've been pretty patient about it seeing that i'm probably the most impatient person you could ever meet..
so i call him every month.. we dont really hang out to much anymore, but his GF is good friends with my fiance.. i leave him voicemails but i get no return call.. so i have to go through his GF who is getting sick of it.. .. its just pissing me off i have to go through her to talk to him.. she always says he really busy.. well, but what about last Sunday when i called.. what electrician works on Sundays? none.. so she said he should be calling me later today when he gets a break from work.. we'll see
 
Been there. basically it cost you x amount of dollars to realize that you'll never do that again. Also is the money loss worth losing a friend, and vice versa.
 
yea.. i had planned on it.. but for some reason (cant remember why) i didnt..
 
well, he has paid me back almost half of it.. actually, just over a 1/3 ($700, still owes $1300).. i forgot to add that part into the story
 
a little background on how i know him too..

him and my brother were good friends all through JR high and high school.. i hung out with them quite a bit too.. i was a little older, but it was somebody to skate with.. so i've known him for 15yrs probably..
 
Well at least he's made the effort, maybe just not enough for you. but, being that he's an electrician, he should be making a shit load of money. they do here in NY.
 
yea.. but he likes to go out and spend tons of money on dinner and shit w/ his GF.. thats the part that pisses me off the most.. if he didnt go out to expensive dinners for a month he could have paid me back long ago.. because of him i will never lend anyone money again.. well only a select few i'd lend money too.. only because i know for a fact they'd pay me back
 
im owed about $1400 from friends... luckily im not in need of money.

thanks to quickbooks i can keep track of it all. i should age that shit. i'd be a millionare.
 
i'm not really in the need for the money either, its just the fact its been a year when i was promised month after month

but yea.. i was thinking i shoulda added some interest to that.. but i figured since its hard enough to get the money he owes me that i would never get that even

Sucks about the situation, but I know plenty of electricians that work 10-12 hour days 7 days a week. He should be able to bank at least a grand off each paycheck with that kind of work load.
 
yea, similar to your situation
i love when someone NEEDS to borrow money for something like heat for their family, or to pay fines to keep their license, but when it comes time to pay you back, you see them walking around with a new cell phone, or they decide to get the latest video game... and you're just left wondering wtf...???
i was there when you needed to be bailed out, but now it comes times to repay and you have better things to do with your money?

if they can't work they can't pay you back
and all it takes is one trip to YOUR house at night by someone with nothing left to lose and its game over for you

go over there with a document that says
"i agree to pay XXX a month for the next X months, due on the first of each month. Each day late will be assed at 5% late fee and added to the total."

if he refuses to sign it, tell him you have no choice but to take him to small claims court (even though, you shouldn't, because you'll get laughed at without having anything in writing.

make it reasonable... 200 a month or something for the amount of months it takes to get it all back.


If all else fails, fuck his gf :)
