I'm irate.

February of 2007 just before I moved into the house I got a consolidation loan through my CU for every bill I had aside from my car payment and paid everything off.

First of all, when I asked for 5 years she told me that she gave me a 3 year loan because "I'd pay it off faster". I was kind of pissed cause I'd already signed everything before she told me that. My reasoning for a consolidation loan was to take 250/monthly payments down to 110/monthly. Under the 3 year, my payments would be 175. So I'm not dropping 140, I'm only dropping 75 off my monthly expenses. I eventually came around to it because 75 dollars is 75 dollars.

Fast foward to April 2008, I got a consolidation loan for my windows, I wanted to take the consolidation loan and pay it off with this loan so I could afford to do the windows and save money on utility bills at the same time. So I walked in with my check last April and said "Pay off my loan." She took what the balance was and paid it off. I was happy.

I was so happy that I actually fucking smiled.

Fast forward to today...

I knew I had 100 dollars in my savings that had to be in there because of that consolidation loan from Feb 07. I wanted it, and I wanted to close that account. I walked in and asked my balance in my savings "It's 15 cents".

what the fuck? Oh, all I can withdraw is 15 cents, but the 100 was still in my savings... now here's teh fucked up shit. When I paid off the balance of the consolidation loan from Feb 07, for what-ever-the-stupid-fucking-reason was, she didn't pay it all off. She paid off all but 540 of it. Why the fuck would she do that? I have no fucking clue. Because it takes the large amount I paid to it, and spreads it over my normal payment pattern, I don't have to start to pay back this 540 until July of 09, so I haven't incurred any late charges or overdraft charges because of this balance.

Seriously though, why the fuck would you NOT pay the full balance off when I fucking ask you to pay off the full balance? The bitch who did it, well nobody seems to like her.

Lesson of the day kids, don't bank through small credit unions with fat ass ugly old wenches who work there.

This shit just pissed me off for the rest of the day. I needed that 100 so I could pay Mark the 30 I owe him and pay Greg the 50 for his kitchen counter island I wanted, and then go and get some damn fine ribs for dinner one night with the rest. I think the world is out to screw me without anal ease.

Don't pin this shit on me, the whole thing about 3 yrs vs 5 yrs isn't the problem. It didn't impact me in any fashion really. The real lesson is if you're in customer service then fucking listen to your customers and do what they ask.

Sounds like they fucked you out of all that interest you would have avoided had then done a pay off balance, instead of just applying that large sum to your normal payment schedule

that sucks

Like you have never made a mistake? What she did is really neither here nor there the end responsibility should have been on you.

The real lesson is to double check and make sure that what you wanted done was done especially with financial matters. You should have been receiving some sort of statement in the mail for the balance of your loan or a letter saying that your loan was paid off. IMHO it was your bad for not following up on this. I know I would have with that kind of money on the line.

exactly my point.

These people aren't out there to help you. They are out there to make money.

Yes I make mistakes, but when if it came to other peoples' money I wouldn't be making these kinds of mistakes. What the hell excuse can she have, other than she's just an ignorant and lazy fuckwad? She's been there for 20 years for Gods sake.

Anyway, do you read bank statements on accounts that are open but not being used?

My statement I received that day said balance of 0 on it, other than the small amount of interest that had accrued since I asked for my pay off amount. I paid that, and it should have been done. Loan paid off. Done. Kaput. Overwith.

I didn't fuck up, she did. Stop making this my fault. lol

Then take that bank statement in and show it to the person in charge? I assume you have that right? If not pull it off the web - I can at my CU. Also to answer your question yes I do check my statement every month - actually it is everyday with my online account. I also check my ins. and my mortgage statements. I had a string of 4 months where each insurance bill was different than the month before and since I had the paperwork they could figure out what was happening. Go figure mistake on their end.

I am not saying that you need to keep every statement but I would most definately keep the ones where things were paid off or a large payment was made. That is common sense. In this case you and your CU are at fault on this. They made the initial mistake and you didn't catch it.

This credit union doesn't have online statements, this is why I left and went to Chase in April.

You check your accounts that are actively being used, but I bet you don't have any accounts that are open but you haven't used for 6 months. Regardless of whatever reason you have to pin this on me, she still fucked it up in the beginning.

I'm glad you keep statements from 6+ months ago, I keep my statements for 2 months prior and shred the rest.

3 years for me. It helps when getting audited and such.

My dad's company got audited by the state last month and had to pull up statements for everything from personal to business on the last 7 years. Guess what? He had them all. He got a huge over pay refund, but owed only on a difference of 100k of sales vs. wholesale costs.

Buy yourself a file cabinet, keep your shit organized, and make time once a week to look over those statements, and this shit won't happen.

Actually I do have two accounts that are open but not being currently used and your right I do not check them daily but I do keep and eye on them from month to month. I don't keep all of my statements just the big ones until I am sure things have been taken care of totally. I am not pinning anything on anybody I could care less. You bitched about getting screwed I pointed out a way you could have avoided the whole mess. /done

+1 on the records for three years. I do that too except with bank statements as I can get them from my bank online.

I'm not keeping paperwork for that, a company owner has a better chance of getting audited than someone who just works for a living. If I get audited i can get all my statements through chase with a phone call. Thats why I switched banks.

Regardless of whether or not I had just caught it now, or caught it the month after it happened, the point of my rant is she still fucked up and didn't do what I asked.
