How the hell do you stop exhaust rattling?

Oh, I do a little here and there.
So I replaced my gay ass stock exhaust with huge fart cannon finally!

With a Buddy Club Spec 2 full catback exhaust system and a test pipe. It's deafening with no silencer but with the silencer in it sounds just perfect, not too loud, awesome deep tone, and the tip of the pipe isn't a ridiculously large cannon.

But the only thing is it friggin rattles like crazy sometimes. Seems like it has to start right before I shift every time. All the rubber pieces for the hangers are...well they get the job done but they're cracked all over :D, except for one of the 2 rear ones so I wrapped that sumbitch with duct tape, put on some zip ties, and covered that with some more duct tape for a nice cheap fix. When I rechecked the underside I couldn't find any metal touching anything other than the rubber mounts for the hangers or the bolts I tightened (or the ghetto mount I made).

Is it rattling because of the exhaust piping vibrating or do some older cars just do that?

Anyone else who's installed a spec 2 before knows the pipe inserts are supposed to have these springs (2 on each side where the pipes insert at 2 different spots) holding them together, but I just started driving it without them cause I was lazy. Could these have something to do with it?

The noise is driving me nuts, instead of going from constantly rattling fart cannon to awesome bad ass sounding cat-back I've just gone from constantly rattling shitty-sounding fart cannon to awesome bad ass sounding cat-back with annoying rattle covering up the awesome sound you're supposed to hear.

Damn this is a huge post.

i had the same problem. check it out, the hangers on the muffler are probably rubbing up against the rear bumper. just get under there with a grinder and cut some of the hanger off. also, look for a heat shield that maybe could be rusted through and touching the exhaust pipe

you shoud say the words cannon, awesome and rattle one more time by the way hahaha. read that shit man. it's like your trying to say it real fast without stopping. like a tounge twister

it may b e with test pipe i installed a test pipe had a ton of rattleing , stock cat no rattling...... those test pipes suck man

Yea you know I thought those rear hangers were a bit long. I'll check that out. No muffler on the buddy club spec 2 exhaust either, it's just a straight pipe that gets a little wider at the tip :D but not that big really.

And yea that last part of my post you quoted does look kind of funny and for some reason it was coming to me like a tongue twister lol.

I don't see how the test pipe could be rattling, it's just a straight thru pipe that bolts up just as tightly and solidly as a cat. But my shit was rattling even worse with the cat. I had a feeling the cat went out a while back so I bought an ebay test pipe.

yah good point idk how to stop my rattling either it only rattles at liek 2.5 rpm

2.5 that's about where mine starts then I usually let off the gas a little to stop it then shift around 3-3.5k.

Also rattles a lot at WOT.

By the way in your sig you say there's a puddle of oil below your intake? It's probably tranny oil check all the seals etc.

Fix the rattles. Figure out what is rattling and fix it. Is this difficult? Do you have to ask people on a forum how to fix a rattle? Seriously?

Check the factory heat shielding. Over time it rusts out around the mounting bolts and it rattles against the exhaust piping and the bottom of the car.

couldn't of said it better myself. oh wait, i did. i don't think he's checked it yet though

yah well then why does it only rattle ever since i put on a aftermarket exaust system, i think its the parts that are rattleing, i d think its physically hitting anything....

^Ya heat shield ratter is common, especially in older cars. The magnaflow muffler rattled when i first got my car, turns out the baffle in the muffler was toast which caused the muffler to rattle at a specific RPM, your muffler is probably new so it shouldnt be but its worth a check.
