Transmission or Computer?

Hello. I have a 91 Accord EX AT Tranny. I just got it back from a person that quit making payments to me on it. I starts out in 3rd gear and will not shift out of third gear. At 3000 rpm's I go about 45 mph. No slipping at all just feels like it is stuck in one gear. The engine light is on but I forget where the little jump thingy is to count the flashes of the engine light. What code am I looking for anyways?

How do I know if it is the tranny that is bad or just the tranny computer/TCM????

service conection in right kick panel, short it out with jumper to read codes. i had this trouble twice, once was the main fuel relay under left dash, this sends voltage to transmission computer, second time i changed the transmission computer with a junk yard unit and it made a new car out of it. did you try disconecting the battery?? sometimes this will clear it and get you running , but the problem will probly come back again. transmision computer is located under fllor mat on right side of car, it is the one on the right side.

I don't think it's the tranny computer, usually your d light or sport light blinks when the computer malfunctions.

Great answers. One thing I failed to mention, The Green "S" light is on constantly, and the CEL comes on after about 5 minutes of driving it. What do you think now with this new information??

Try swapping the trans computer. The "S" light is the sport light.

on a 93 accord i had the transmission dr 4 light blinked and the trtansmission was locked in third gear, after a lot of reserch it was found the main fuel cut off relay was defective, part of the voltage to the transmission computer comes from this relay.
in my 92 lx the transmion dr 4 light came on did not blink but stayed on no matter where the selecter was the trasnsmissin was locked in third gear, then out of the blue it would clear itself and start shifting again normal, i relaced the transmission computer and never had another problem, the dr 4 light does not nessasarly have to blink, it can simply stay on, the 92 and 3 does not have the s light. so do not rule out the computer, these can be found in junk yards for as little as 60.00 so its not a big deal. also on the main realy i had a freind who was having trouble and poor solder joints were found at the main relay pig tail, something els common in some models
