Working on swaping a B18A1 in to my CRX and I ahve a few motor questions:

1) In the 1st picture of the axle, you can see the boot is stretched. I can't push the axle back together, it feels like it's pulled out. Can I remove the boot and fix it or do I need to get a new axle?

2) In the 2nd picture, is the green sensor the knock sensor and do I need to hook it up?If so, do I use the plug off the B18 harnes and run the wires to the ECU?

3) In the 3rd picture, what do the hoses go to?

1) its muffed up, get a new reman axle from autozone, advance, or wherever. they're cheap and generally come with lifetime warranties.

2) no thats the coolant fan switch. use the wires that are already there on your stock harness and splice them into the proper plug from the b18 harness.

3)they are for power steering.. therefore not necessary. so do this..

what does coolant fan switch look like on an 88 hf? just found my manual and it says that the big black plug at top right in pic is the fan switch? so what is the green sensor to the left?

The axle can be fixed, just did it to mine. You have to unclamp the boot and fit the bearing like deals in it place. Its a pain in the ass but its free

thanks man, just went out and bought a manual! thought i might need one!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what manual is the pic from?

the coolant temp sensor is on the side of the head, not the back of the block. the ect sending unit is for the reading on the temp gauge, the ect sensor is for the ecu input, and the oil temp switch is what tells the radiator fan to kick on. all of these are needed.

on the side of what head? the hf or the b18, the only plug i did not use on the hf harness is a flat 3wire plug that was hooked on side of head, but the plug on b18 is a 2wire plug, i'm so confused now!!!!!!!

your stock oil temp switch doesn't have a plug. its just two wires that connect to the prongs on the switch outlined below.

splice the 2 wires hanging near there off your stock harness onto the 2 pin connector from the b18 harness.

i have the 2pin connector off the hf harness hooked up to the engine oil temperature switch[what u circled in pic] got that..... what is the green sensor to the left of it ??????????????????sorry i'll take some pics of what i got, might help clear up what i'm trying to say..

oh ok i see what you got goin on. i'm not sure what that goes to. if everything else is hooked up then you might be straight. thats my bad bra.

thats cool man, i thought i read somewhere that it's the knock sensor and u don't have to hook it up but i wanted to be sure! got a haynes book but they don't tell u shit!!!!! if anyone know what the green sensor is plllllllllllleeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssseeeeeee help me!!!!!!getting ready to order a manual off ebay.

well its definately not a knock sensor. as the other guy said i'm pretty sure its an oil temp switch. its not necessary but its like a safety feature i suppose. the 2 prong coolant temp switch next to it kicks the radiator fan on. the oil temp switch simply does the same thing, only basing its need for fan usage on the temp of the oil, not the coolant. So it's not absolutely necessary by any means. which is why i gather you don't find it on the newer b18b1 blocks. and i imagine probably not on the dohc vtec blocks, but i could be wrong. The spot for one is still there, it's just blocked off. You also notice how on the newer blocks the radiator coolant fan switch has been moved to the thermo housing, so you don't see that either.

it's there on my obd0 b16. long story short, the plug is there for sure if your rex was a Si. if it was a DX or HF, i can't be sure, but i assume it's the same. the wire on your harness only needs to be lengthened an inch or two to reach the new location.

Thats weird because i swear on my engine harness i didn't have that plug, and i have an Si. I have a b18b now and it doesn't have that green plug, and i also didnt have a plug left over that would of gone to the connector had it been there. hmmm

the hf harness does not have a plug that fits that sensor, so i guess i don't need it! so on to the next problem when ever it comes up [i know it will] the pic is the back of the hf and as u can see no green sensor but u can see in the bottom left of the pic the big hole in the block!!!! say no to cold air intakes!!!!!:confused:thanks again guys
