Finally, I am done with the bullshit d series motor. Mine just died =D
I have $1500 at the moment to spend for a swap. Any ideas please? I'm looking to turbo this setup later on. I just want a strong motor with some power, I don't car about gas either. I'm looking at the B series.

If $1,500 total is your budget, then look towards a B16 or an LS. I doubt you'll be able to afford a GS-R with that much...

I was thinking the b16a2, which I believe comes from the 99-01 SI, correct me if I'm wrong. Would that be quick in my 94 civic eg? And what else, because I believe I can get the whole motor swap (tranny, ecu, harness, axels, mounts) for around $800-$1000. What else do I need for the swap, I know I'm forgetting alot of things.

U also need shift linkage, and yeah that would be a decently quick car my friend has almost the same exact setup.

Why not a cheap D16Z6, build it up for turbo and when you have enough money for turbo slap it on and have a reliable d.d. It would be very easy to swap in vs. a B-series.(you have a VX right?) If so you already have VTEC, motor mounts are there, shift linkage is there, axels are there just the Z6 motor it self and probably the tranny. Thats the way I would go.

THe thing is,I'm looking for a stronger motor now.The z6 is cheap for the buck but the b series is alot better I guess?
I think you are right though.Since this would be my first swap, why not do this, its easy, cheap, and I can learn from it. Yes I have the VX, so if I wanted to do the z6 swap, what exactly would I need now please?

So I found some stuff in my local area
D16Z6 Block for $150 obo
d16z6 block 150obo
D16Z6 head w/ 130k miles on it
d16Z6 CIVIC PARTS

And I'm a noob at this so excuse my noobiness, but for A full swap I think I need, motor (block and head), intake manifold, ecu, harness, mounts, tranny, shift linkage (if nessecary), axels, and what else?

With the two link above I have the block and head, so I'm assuming the other stuff isn't on the two things?
And what is a dizzy? Distributer?
and does the distributer come with the head?

imo it would be easier just to find a motor that was already together other then finding parts here and there and still have to put the motor together. but you would need motor and ecu. you can use your old axles and the mounts are the same. i do believe you can use your stock harness since its already vtec as well. you dont necessarily need a tranny. you can use yours but the ex/si tranny has shorter gears then your vx. yes a dizzy is a distributor and should come with the head/motor which ever you decide to go with. just check to make sure

Just found a motor
Honda parts b18 swap and h22 parts
The b18a1, it was in his friends Del Sol,
he's giving me the motor and tranny for $600
So I'm getting this, unless you guys have reasons against, and what else do I need now?
Mounts for sure, ECU, axles too right because its going from D to B series?
shift linkage? and what is a shift linkage, lol.
What else do I need guys please?
check list.

Shift linkage is the 2 bars that run from the tranny to to shift lever. Make sure you replace the linkage pin located on the tranny side of the linkage. OEM P/N 94305-80222 Do not reuse the old one! These are sprung steel and can vibrate out if weakened from reuse. Also, make sure you get the engine harness with the motor. He's not selling the ECU with the motor? I would recommend a P-72 ECU. You'll also need a B18 exhaust manifold. I think that's everything but I might be missing something.

Its from the 99-00 SI. 01 Si had a K20 in it.

Anyway, for your budget look into an LS, and if thats not enough for you, get a GSR or B16 tranny to mate with the LS. It makes a nice ride.

Then you can always go LS-VTEC, or turbo, whatever, theres plenty of potential with an LS.

why would u want a p72 gsr ecu...

that looks for iab's
that only h22's and gsr's have..
i wouldnt go that route

There's no need a P72 ECU here. An OBD1 LS ECU should work just fine...

No, the P72 is not needed but is simply a recommendation. I only recommend it as a good start for any later upgrade to a GSR head and intake. Since GSR head swap is a real common upgrade for this motor then a P72 is my best recommendation to start with. But if all you want is the stock LS OBD1 ECU then it's the P75, which is for a B18B1. Or if you want the original ECU for that B18A1, it's the PR4 (not recommended).

If anything, I would recommend the LS ECU for now, and then later switching to a chipped and tuned P28. The P72 will only be applicable if he were to install a GS-R intake with it's butterfly secondaries. Any other B-series manifold isn't going to have those. Since there are many other B-series head and intake options available, I'd say hold off on the P72...

:fosho:i would also agree, a chipped p28 for later mods would be good, its universal for all vtec heads, but the ls ecu would work just fine for his setup now.

Honestly, it all comes down to price. What's gonna be cheaper now and in the long run. Well lets see... You can pick up just about any ECU, no matter the number, for about the same price off ebay. i.e. not that much difference in price. So it all falls back to what you plan on doing later down the road with your car. Is it really gonna be cheaper to buy one ECU now and then have to replace it with a different one down the road because the one you bought doesn't have the functionality you need? I would think buying one ECU now that would work for you down the road is a lot cheaper than buying a second ECU later to replace the one you already bought. Common sense says not to spend more money on something if you don't have to, it's just a waste. So why not get something that will give you the options of both vtec and the GSR secondaries? After all, it's about the same price and it's not like a P72 can't be chipped either. Just remember to stick with an OBD1 ECU when you choose.

Ok well, I'm holding off for another week to get that motor now because of some issues. I've also decided that I will be doing the swap in a different car, not the VX. I'm buying a shell. It will probably be another eg, but I'm looking into the em1. And any helpon how/ what to fix on bent valves? Tried to start car with timing completely off.

Pretty much any ECU can be chipped. What's so special about the GS-R one? Like I said, that one's only useful if he uses a GS-R intake manifold and leaves everything pretty much stock. There are plenty of options besides the GS-R manifold, and plenty of different ECUs that can be chipped to run just about anything...
