So here in the bay area we just started receiving E85 at our pumps. Holy crap this is great fuel for boosted cars. Take a look at the difference between using the two fuels 91 vs E85. I don't think I'm ever going back to 91 now. :)

My scanner isn't hooked up, so I had to take pictures of the dyno graphs. :)

On 91 it made 262whp/259wtq @ 23psi
on E85 it made 333whp/318wtq @ 27psi

+71whp/+59wtq

Mods:

2005 Evo GSR

TBE no cat
RC 1000cc injectors
Walboro fuel pump
GM 3 port

The car is an animal now. I don't think I'll ever got back to 91 unless I'm forced to.

i want to convert my 1.5 to run e85 since mitsubishi motors run so fucking well on it, but alas there are no pumps within 60 miles.

I think boosted motors see the largest benefit. Its like running 110 octane!

you also have to remember evo's lose a lot of whp in the drivetrain. awd != whp

i did not know that the EVO 8 was a flex fuel vehicle
You can make any car flex fuel with larger injectors and tuning. :)

Well, E85 and 5 more pounds of boost, lol.

But 333hp @ 27psi? Doens't that seem a touch low for that kind of boost? Am I crazy?
This was done on a Mustang dyno. Probably more like 370whp on a dynojet. These dyno's read very low. Stock Evo 8's baseline at around 225whp on this dyno. Thats why you should really be comparing the difference between the 91 tune and E85 tune. :D

The point of E85 is the ability to run more boost safely. :) You can also lean it out much more, which would have given some gains on 23 vs 23 psi I suppose.

that is amazing. but can you just put e85 in or does it need to be a specific engine, or do you need any special mods for this to work?

You just need larger fuel injectors to deliver more fuel, and the ability to modify fuel and timing in the ECU. I don't think it would do much for our Hondas, unless we're boosted or running very high CR.

well i'm building a boosted ls vtec. and trying to make it the best i can e85 sounds pretty good

Yup, seems like the holy grail for fuel on boosted cars. Very high knock index and the ethanol has exceptional cooling properties. You're in CO, I think you have many E85 stations around. Go for it!

sorry i meant 400 cc lol cause 330 cc is 40 psi *noob typo* :D

i just calculated it and if i boost the ls out to about 330 whp then i would need 600 cc injectors for optimal flow.....damn.....those should cover e85 lol
