ok, so i pulled the engine out of my civic finally to replace the clutch and flywheel and a few other issues that needed to be resolved. Anyways, i have decided that since i already have the motor out of the car i might as well throw some new mods at it, right? Right. i've been researching camshafts for my engine (D16y7, by the way) and i am leaning towards the Skunk2 Stage 1 camshaft. my question is this: can i use the d16y8 camshaft in the y7 head. i didnt know if the fact that the y8 is vtec would be a major problem for my engine. thanks in advance.

i know, i know, i suck with the punctuation.

I wouldn't they have different specs. It will fit, but you'd see much better gains if you got the right one. Heck if you really want to add to it swap the intake maniflod for one off of a D16Y8 or if you really want to gain some power swap the Y7 head to a Y8. Swapping the heads is basically bolt on 30 hp.

its only a large increase in power if i hook up vtec, and i dont want to. im trying to avoid removing the head, again. i already have a skunk2 intake manifold, so i think the y8 would be a decrease in power.

ok, so i am reading a lot of good things in other forums about DeltaCams for d16y7 because there aren't any billet cams for my engine. anyone know anything about them?

Why would you not want to hook up VTEC if you had a VTEC head? And why would you buy the Y8 camshaft if you have a Y7 head? Just buy the correct camshaft for whatever motor you have...

If the Y8 cam even fits in the Y7, you probably wouldn't see any gains anyways. It's usually the VTEC lobes that are more aggressive.

D series engines dont have mucho options as the b18 does. Their out there, dont get me wrong on that part. I dont think they make cams for non vtec d series though. only the vtec series. You could find a company that will take your stock cam and beef it up to your specs. I know there was one company that would of done it for my F22. But I dont think the Y8 cam would fit in a y7 head. if i were you guy. I'd just find a head at a junkyard and get the Y8 head for a Y8 cam. have the head ported to your specs on the cam, and get the aftermarket valve springs, and if you feel like it. the titanium retainers too.

ok, let me try to rephrase this... i dont have a y8 head on my engine, apparently that sentance got left out. my bad. the reason i was asking if a y8 cam would fit in a y7 head is because there isnt any aftermarket cams for the y7, but there is for the y8. i dont want to do a mini-me on this car. i dont know why. i just want to see what i can do with this engine.

i guess i am trying to go by the old adage :"Learn to drive a slow car fast..." sorry for the lack of communication, but don't worry about it, i found all the info i needed. i'll probably be starting a build thread soon so keep an eye out for it. :)

Web can do regrind...and Bisimoto does stuff for the non-VTEC D-series...he's the guy with the 270whp D15, All-motor. Check out his site at Bisimoto Engineering
