Out of nowere my 96 started shaking under acceleration, and a little cruzin but not at all breaking or revving with the clutch in. all weights are inplace. any ideas:confused:
i am thinkin about jacking it up and spining the tires.

still vibrates with no tires on. it looks like the axle looks like it is shaking a little bit. should i replace them?

If the car is jacked up with no weight, the axles at maxed angles and full reach will "vibrate" a little anyway. Check your motor and trans mounts out, see if you broke one. Inspect the rubber in all of them. Could be a bent axle too, have you been off roading lately?

If you get the car up to say, 70mph, and toss it in neutral, does it still vibrate or does it go away?

it goes away with the clutch in. i havnt been offroading although it is lowered and i have been having issues with potholes.

no way its the motor mounts cuz the clutch stops it. could be tranny mounts. should i bother with the mounts or just try the new axles. ps. how would i check the mounts? i assume that would involve removing it. could it possibly be a bearing in the tranny or bad internals on the tranny? one tire barely moves with the car jacked up

someone mentioned harmonic balancer. is that a possibility? anyone?

Axles are balanced at the factory and hard acceleration while turning or hitting a pot-hole while turning can cause them to get a slight bend in them causing the balance to be thrown off

A busted motor mount will let the engine flop around under acceleration or load, same with trans mounts. To check them, just get a bright flashlight and look at them, check for cracks in the metal (unlikely), loose or broken bolts, and check the rubber inside for breaks or unusual wear. Factory honda mounts tend to get crunchy over time and break apart.

I strongly doubt axles because even with the clutch in, the axle is still spinning while coasting down the road. So it would vibrate all the time, clutch or no.

Could also be that you've chipped off a chunk of your clutch. I had that happen to me once. Clutch plate just fell apart when I pulled it away from the flywheel on dissasembly.

the way i was taught to check mounts on a vehicle is to put the car in gear and step on the brake, give the car a little gas while half clutching, sort of like drifting and have a buddy of yours look under the hood with a flashlight or whatever check the mounts if there is any major play in them up and down or sideways and replace them if necessary.

check in 1st gear and reverse or drive and reverse while stepping on brake so you dont accidently run over your friend.hahah

It wasnt vibrating while cruzing due to how it was shaking. 2 rings came off any threw the brearings out
