I have a 95 d16z6 in a 89 civic hatch, the problem is that I am getting fuel to the filter and rail and also getting spark to the plugs but it is still not firing... What could be the problem? also, It DOES run on starting fluid
Injectors?
Regulator?

you should be using obd0 injectors with the stock resistor box, or obd1 injectors without the box. are you?

well the stock injectors in the z6 head assuming you haven't changed them would be obd1. since its not starting now, but with starter fluid it does, i'm going to assume if it is an injector problem, then its because your using obd1 injectors while you still have the stock obd0 resistor box plugged in. if the injectors in there now are obd1 then you just need to remove the resistor box. unplug it and solder all 5 wires going to it together. (4 red/black, 1 yellow/black)

Oh, Is it that metal box grouded on the frame? because that IS plugged in. Its the one with all the lines right?

is your ECU grounded? it goes to the thermostat housing.

How do I check that?

I just unplugged the resistor box thing and tryed to start my engine, BBut it still doesnt start.
Do those wires from the resistor box need to be soldered? What else could it be?

AHhh im so frustrated, and is it possible to make a full time vtec?

have your resistor box wires been cut and re-connected?, then it would be a great idea to solder them for a proper connection. better to use OBD1 injectors and eliminate the resistor box altogether.

a lot of time when people do swaps, it is really easy to forget the little ring terminal from the harness, it has 2 or 3 wires and bolts to your thermostat housing, it's where your ECU grounds itself, you will have power to everything, dizzy, injectors, fuel in the rail, but nothing is grounded so it wont start.

you may have another issue, but try to buy, borrow or download a helms manual, sometimes public libraries can find them for you.

and for full time VTEC, use a performance cam in a non-VTEC head, same concept less wiring and you keep it OBD0

follow your lower radiator hose up from the radiator to the engine and there's your thermostat housing.
you should find a wire from your harness running to it attached with a 10mm bolt.

the wires are wrapped, so it looks like one

Here are pics of some stuff that is unplugged.:

Just go to n_kempin - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Im wondering what those green and yellow wires are by the fuse box,
And what is that red wire with thw gold thing?
also what is that threaded hole on the thermostat thing.
And can you tell what type of injectors those are?
I think that those Injector clip have been filed off.
Can anyone tell me what type of regulator that is?
Theres also the open hole on the end of the intake manifold. Doesnt that go to the The stock regulator usually?

And also there are alot of unplugged wires in the dash... Could that do anything to the running factor? Ill post pics of that in photobucket to.

Ok, I got the pics of the dash to upload and Of this wire, It is purple and one time I accidentally touched it to metal and it sparked whre does this go? and the fuse box is missing some fuses it seems. Any input would be great!

first of all, did you buy the car in the condition it's in now?

you have a lot of work ahead of you, if at all possible find a you-pull-it salvage yard in your area that has the same model civic that you have (or someone parting one out) with a full wire harness that you can pull off yourself and familiarise yourself with how it is hooked up**take notes** number your plugs and where they came from.

all of the wires in your pics look like add-ons, if it isn't from the factory or you added it and know what it's for take it all out and start over.

that hole in your manifold is for your stock regulator, use that one, when you get it running right on stock parts, then mod.

you really need to get a manual.
92-95 civic helms is best.

oh, and all the wires you need to worry about are between your ECU and engine.

I bought the car from a friend as a project, but it did run.
From the pics could you tell if any of that stuff should be plugged in?
so what type of addons are they?
needed or uneeded?
Will it run with the aftermarket regulator thats on it?

damn thats a fuster cluck. your friend name doesnt happen to be vin diesel does it? cause damn he riced the crap outa that thing. painted bolts blue. all the blue wire loom. crappy wiring job which is very evident. and he used washer fluid hose as a vaccum line, i mean seriously now.

The majority of those extra wires that look like someone added after the fact, and were not there from the factory, you can probably remove. theres no way we can tell just by looking at all of those wires where they go. it looks like the majority of them were added by somebody at some point during the cars lifetime. most of the hanging wires that i see in the pictures don't appear like they would have any vital function attached to them. but the only way to know is follow the wires and figure out where they go. the red wire with the sensor on it of some sort, i'm really not sure what it is. i don't believe i've ever seen such a thing.

you can probably make it work with the aftermarket fuel regulator but i don't personally have any experience with one so i can't really help you on that. i'm sure if you do a search here, honda-tech, or on google you'll find out some useful information. if you can find a stock fuel rail i would personally just go back to that. the aftermarket unit just isn't necessary and unless you're going to mount it properly, it just looks like ass. and anyone who knows there asshole from a hole in the ground is gonna be like c'mon now seriously. that may also have somethin to do with why it won't run right. but since there are so many other things that need figured out first its hard to say definitively.

Damn I wish i didnt get it now, =( Im so flustered on how to fix it. I Just Swapped some lines around and finally got some fuel pressure. The plugs seem to be getting quite oily and were almost completely black on the tip when i pulled them out. On the dipstick I can kind of tell that there might be too much oil as the oil covers both of the holes. I jumped it with my jeep today and It seems to rumble a bit but still wont run..
I might just go ahead and sell the POS!!

well as long as the engine and tranny are mechanically sound i dunno if i'd jump to selling it so quickly. all the things wrong with it, if you can resolve them, are fairly minor. just figure out where those wires go to and remove whats not necessary. he may have had like neons or led washer nozzles hooked up, who knows. try swapping back to a stock fuel pressure regulator if you can get one. Since you don't know the shape it's in, go over everything. dizzy, check for spark, plugs, firing order, fuel, timing, grounds, anything that might be preventing it from starting.

when you say it does run on starting fluid, does it run fairly well? if its not getting adequate fuel obviously the first place to start is the stupid aftermarket fuel pressure regulator. try finding a thread on installing one of those things properly. or just ditch it and go back to the stock one. whatever you think would be easier, or if you have the stock fpr readily available.

lastly see what info you can get from the friend you purchased it from. granted by the shoddy work he did who knows if he would be much a help but its worth a try. maybe he still has the stock fpr. also install fuses in the fuse box where they are missing. and what ecu are you using btw, just curious
