so when there are women on the front lines guys supposedly go out of their way to protect them, is that true?
i ask because i heard obama wants women to be in selective service, because he thinks it will help w/ equality, which i agree with. so it potentially could happen.

Im not military or ex military but ill take a stab.

No more than any other soldier. If we are about equility and such, then why is a womans life worth more than a mans? However our instincts will tell us that woman are to be protected above and beyond a man for the most part. That is the biggest argument against woman in combat roles.

maybe it did go away. or maybe its dark here, i dunno. or maybe it couldn't keep up. or maybe it was a stalker. oh it got banned, lol. it was funny, i miss it. i liked it post here, but its first was gibberish.
about the military thing i'm pretty sure israel and ~serbia used to make all young women and men be part of army, so maybe men get used to women in danger or they put them in certain roles. and on equality, israel does have a female leader.

I don't think we will ever see women on the frontlines, maybe a few hard cases here and there, but no where near "equal". I'm sure there are a few that would perform as well as any man, but the fact that they have lower standards as far as performance (lower PT requirments for one), and the social aspect of having females and males together in a situation like that, I just don't see it happening. And not being chauvinist or anything, I haven't met many women that I would trust in a firefight to be able to pick my 200+ ass+ battle rattle, throw me over their shoulder and run to cover under fire.

I believe ALL Israeli citizens have to serve in the military, and I have seen many pictures of young hotties carrying machine guns, and in uniform, but then again, that is a completely different society, and it is advantageous for them to have a whole population of soldiers.

yeah, it's a 2 year commitment for everybody.

i personally didn't want any women near me. keep women off the frontline unless they are 200lb bull-dikes that "looka likea man".

sometimes you get little girls that have something to prove. thats how they get raped and harassment and all that bullshit starts. keep it separated. men are pilots and killers. women are nurses and admin. it's that fucking simple. no reason to argue it. there might be .0001% that don't fit that mold, but it's not worth the battle for that 1 girl who could do it.

it's like football and volleyball. a million girls play, but 1 or 2 might be able to compete. it's just different.

They are not allowed on the front lines, in combat positions. They can be field nurses but that is the closet they get to the "front line" maybe your definiton of front line is diffrent than the militarys definition of front line. But for the most part, coming from my brother in iraq, everyone is treated equal and thats as a family. But seeing as im not there I cant tell you weither they do or not but like I said according to my brother everyone is treated the same.

yeah i know the US military has lower standards that pass a girl for not being able to throw a grenade far enough away to not hurt herself. equality thru inequality?

Well then, they should develop a grenade flinging device, perhaps some type of slingshot-type-contraption that will help level out the playing field for female soldiers who are unable to match the level of physicality required of male soldiers yet still demand to be treated exactly the same.

Don't worry, I'm sure Obama will do something to address this disparity...

So people say that Clinton gutted the military, or cut spending etc...

I'd be curious to see the troop levels for clinton's 8 years compared to bush's 8 years
not including all the back door drafts (aka reserve)

I'm just curious if clinton cut troops, or if he just cut back the feeding frenzy of the military industrial complex in the US.

Clinton didn't fund all of the stupid stuff our military spent money on. Personally, I've seen more than my share of stupid stuff get bought and paid for.

Bush however, in the initial months deployed troops with no budget to support the 'war'. So there was overspending because of the outcry. How many contractors do I personally know who made OVER 250k in 6 months in Iraq? Too many.

When I name names, I'm talking administrations. And yes, I know how the US budget works.

EDIT; Oh yeah, the OP's question....

I think we need to go to a mandatory service program. I don't think it's fair that only men could be drafted. The draft laws were written in a time where women weren't expected or even allowed to do much. Yes, Israel has a mandatory service program of 2 years. As do most EU nations as well. I think they're on the right track.

As for combat positions? Everyone has a choice where to go in the military, and what they're going to do. What the little boys the military gets with something to prove? They don't protect those dumbasses from getting into trouble. I don't think anyone else should be any different. If what we're after is equality, there should be more of an effort. It's already been proven that women make better fighter pilots.
