Ok, i have a 1993 del sol with a D16Z6. Factory says i get 130hp i believe, and about 950 pounds of torque. I'm looking to either swap my engine, or add a turbo but I'm not sure which one would be better and more cost efficient.
Im looking to make the car have really fast acceloration. Im not too concerned about top speed. Im getting about 8 seconds give or take for 0-60. Im looking for like 6.5 or better.
Not too concerned about horses, but would be nice to be hitting at least 160. Not too sure on the relation between horses and acceloration, or torque and acceloration. Just looking to make my car really take off with some speed.
So would it be better for me to do an engine swap into a better, faster engine? Or should i just stick to my factory rebuilt D16Z6 and turbo it. All it has done to it is a cold air intake.
Also how much would it cost to make my car a 6 or even 7 second 0-60 car?

idk something like that not too sure, doesnt really concern me unless it is going to have a direct impact on my acceloration. Not looking to peel my tires or anything

I think you meant 95 ft/lbs of torque. A Dodge Viper doesn't even make 950 ft/lbs torque...

I say just boost your D16Z6. That would probably be the best bang for your money...

1st, its acceleration*
2nd, for the money, it would be cheaper to boost that z6.
3rd, the stock d16z6 block can hold around 200HP on x amount of PSI depending on turbo size.
4th, it's not to much money for a home made turbo kit, a swap will cost alot more, assuming you want a B series?

ok so turbo seems to be the best, any suggestions on a specific turbo set? and around how much money will it cost to achieve 200hp?

In your case I would just go with one of the off-the-shelf kits: Greddy, Apex'i, Turbonetics, etc. and then speak with a professional tuner about tuning options.

As for costs, you're probably looking at around $3,000 - $4,000, which is roughly what you'd pay for a B-series swap...

hm, someone told me the K series engine would give the best power to weight ratio. Know anything about that? I believe they are expensive though. My engine has 190k miles on it now, would a B swap just be better in the long run anyways? Though the mechanic said my engine was near perfect with all exact compression ratios for the cylinders. Would i Be able to get a B series engine for the power, then turbo that to get even more power? I know it would be more costly but seems like a good idea at the moment if a turbo for the d16z6 would give the same as a b series stock.

If you have money, K-series FTW. I believe (my opinion) the K -series motor is one of the best if not the best motor that honda makes. Its incredibly strong, durable, reliable, everything good. A k20a2 out of a rsx-s is around 200HP stock, and you can turbo those with everything stock and get some good numbers. Honestly, I say fuck the D-series and go with B-series if you are looking for a good, easy, affordable swap.

The K-series engines are amazing, but definitely expensive. You could easily spend between 5-8 grand just getting one into your car. As for a B-series swap versus a turbo'd D16, it won't be the same power wise. A turbo'd D will put down more power then a B16 or B18 swap. That's why I said it's the best bang for the buck. But yes, if you have the money, then you could swap and then boost...

OK awesome, i think i am going to go with a B swap, which B should i be going for? I saw you mention the B16.

hey if your getting rid of that D16... i could take it off your hands ;)

Any of them would be fine really. The B16 and the LS are going to be the cheapest, but the GS-R is more powerful. Take your pick...

$1000 for an ls swap. a little more if you can't do the swap yourself.

great motor for dd, easy to turbo in the future. i still vote for turbo d16, but it's your call.

ok awesome, im going to try and find myself a GS-R. And would that just fit on my existing engine mounts? Or am i going to have to refit everything?
