So I have been trying to fix this water leak for some time now and I am not really getting anywhere. I was told by Honda that it is common for these older CRXs to leak. But mine is a 91. Anways I notice that rain accumlates in the back expecially in the spare tire area after it rains a lot. I replaced both tail light seals and tightened down the bolts as much as possible. I also replaced the window seals on the back left and back right windows. So far this has cost me about 400 dollars and I am still getting water leaking into the back. I will post some pics soon, but considering I have already replaced all the important seals, what else can be left?

Has anybody else had a severe water leak in their CRXs before?

Yup. Does it have a sunroof? The drains get clogged and/or cracked and cause that to happen.

The drains run from the back corners of the sunroof, down the C pillars, and out the back.

no i do not have a sunroof. It was the HF version. They never had sunroofs. I have heard that certain drains get clogged before but I can't see any on the hatch.

are there any drains that allow water to flow out of the back hatch when it flows down?

Water leak in my 88HF

Hi. I recently got an HF and now that is starting to rain (I live in CA) I am seeing some drops of water dripping off the hatch gas support strut. I am assuming it is comign from quite high up on the rear hatch and dribbling down the edge. I assuem the rubber seals are old and starting to leak. Maybe the water is coming in from the top fo the rear hatch and flowng down the inside of the plastic interior covers?

i have 2 crx's and they both do that. were the rear hatch bolts to the roof, it leaks around the bolts. then runs down the plastic a drips on the rear speakers.
u have to unbolt ur hatch, clean up the surface, and bolts and put RTV sealant on the bolts and on the mounting plate. u should be good after that

b18a1crx are you talking about at the top where the hatch attatches to the car? Can you provide any pictures so that others can see what you are exactly talking about?

My '88 had the same problem when I got it. The PO had slathered the rear quarter window seals, rear hatch glass, and (aftermarket) sunroof seal with silicone and couldn't fix it.

What it turned out to be (and I bet it is in your case as well) was that the seam where the roof panel was installed has failed. If you carefully pry those two narrow strips that run from your A pillar back to the rear hatch out (start from the back and be careful not to bend them,,, they should pop right out) you'll probably find the seam sealer has failed or maybe a little bit of rust has started there. Clean out any rust and loose seam sealer with a razor blade/small scraper or screwdriver, and small wire brush, and then re-seal the seam with more seam sealer or silicone. I bet your leaks will go away....

yeah when I took off all the stripping i did notice some small cracks. I have already picked up two kinds of sealer and I will apply it when it gets a little drier. I will post results of what it looks like and hopefully anybody else with this problem will be able to fix it.
