I'm planning on buy coilover for my 1990 Civic DX. I hate how it sits so high. So, I'm going to buy coilover. I was wondering if you going to need spring compressors or a camber kit after you put it on? I want to get everything ready before I do it and wouldn't run into problems. Tips are welcome. :D
 
spring compressors arent necessary w/ coilovers.. and depends on how low you, you may or may not need a camber kit..
 
well I want to drop it where there is no wheel gap. Maybe just a little show of wheel gap but not much. I say about 1.7"? close to 2". Still deciding if I'm going to need to buy a camber kit or not. I need more information. Still looking for answers. Keep em' comming! :D
 
nah.. shouldnt need a camber kit for that.. invest in a set of KYB AGX or Tokico Illuminas instead
 
if 2" is all you're really looking to go theres plenty of spring options you can go with instead of coils. unless your trying to dump the car completely, but i agree with the strut options listed above.. good choices.
 
Yeah I was thinking about that, But I know later down the road I'm going to eventually dump it. lol That's why I've bought Coils
 
if you're planning on keeping the car for a while id suggest a decent full coilover set up.. something with adjustable dampening.. Tien SS setup is VERY nice. expensive but nice.
 
I have a set of tein basic dampers on a 91 crx dropped about half way to the possible hieght. A camber kit is always necessary when lowering because the purpose of a suspension is to lower center of gravity to be able to corner better and anytime you change the hiegth of a vehicle the camber will change but if you race circuit you want camber and unless you race circuit all the time you don't need camber . Without a camber kit you will see significant tire wear. I would definately suggest investing in a camber kit unless you a have a fat wallet to pay for the tires.
 
actually camber is a minimal killer of tires... i currently run -1.75 degrees camber on the front and -2.0 degrees camber in the rear + i auto x regularly, still havnt seen even minimal irreg. tire wear.. and my tires only have a 160 treadwear rating. i have approx 9-11k miles on the tires and ive only aligned the car once, if your tires are going to wear irregularly it will start, at the latest, 4k miles after the tires are put on, even if they're rotated regularly. this is daily driven with a 50/50 mix of highway and around town. in my experience you can go up to about a 2" drop without risking excessive camber wear.... just make sure the toe is set correctly when you get it aligned... and DEF get it aligned after you lower it.
 
that is somewhat true and not to disrespect your knowledge, but say you buy a new set of tires, and the normal life expectancy out of a tire is 50,000 miles. when all of your tire's tread does not make contact with the road and only the inner part of the tire, it will reduce the tread life of the tire to almost 25,000 miles. which means that every 1 1/2 years you will have to replace tires. keep in mind that 50,000 is not the average life expectancy of a tire, it is usually much more but the # was used for argument purposes. also like mikey bottles said in previous post you must maintain and definitely get an alignment after it is lowered. if not you will see significantly less life out of a set of tires.
 
its cool, but thats why i posted that my tires have a treadwear rating of 160.. which is extremely low. according to yokohama my tires do not have a mileage rating on them at all...but you're right.. in the end.. the inner section of the tire will def wear out before the outside
 
my car is only lowered 1.75" and its been done for just about 4 months now. i would highly suggest getting a camber kit, because the inners of my tires are soooo bald now. because now i have to get new tires soon, plus pay for the camber kit. not fun. not fun at all.

Ouch! Ill keep that in mind. I already got my car lowered and its GREAT! I love it. But I need a camber kit LOL Ill post pics here!

New bad boy in coilovers: DDM Tuning Brand Coilover Suspension

$750 gets you adjustable camber plates, racing shock mounts, springs, and new front sway bar endlinks. It's a BMW site, but the application chart has EG, EK, and DC Honda applications (http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/yhst-15912447027353/CoiloverAppChart.pdf). You should just need to put your EF front forks on the bottom of the coilovers and you're set.

the adjustable upper camber plates arent applicable for this car tho.. camber is adjusted by upper ball joint/control arm positioning... not the struts... so if he's interested in adjusting the camber.. he'd still have to invest in camber kits..... Aaron did you have the car aligned after you lowered it? be careful not to mistake camber wear for toe wear... at 1.75 degrees at least half of your tire should still be in contact with the ground.. so the whole inner half of the tire should be worn out.. if its just the inner edge id be willing to beat that your toe settings are out.

To Scott, how are you man? I like those coilovers you posted. Perhaps they could find a home in my hatch. :ph34r:
