Hi all.

I've actually had a minute here and there to ponder a bit more about my turbo B-series build. So far I am thinking that I will end up going with an a/c compatible Ramhorn style manifold. The question I often ponder about is whether or not there is really a difference between some. Granted I know that what kind of steel they are made of and the type of turbo/wastegate flange matter but really, what else does?

Here are a few links to two of the manifolds that I have deemed to be worthy from what little knowledge I have. Notice that at least to me, the biggest difference in both is price.

The synapseturbo.com manifold, pictured below, can be flanged for either a 38mm or 44mm wastegate but does not specify the turbo flange. The price for this manifold is listed at $699.
.: Catalog :: Synapse Turbo :.

The PeakBoost manifold pictured below and the first quality Ramhorn I ran into, features a T3 turbo flange and a 38mm wastegate flange. I wonder if one would be able to get a different size flange on either end. This one is listed at $899.

Please feel free to comment on these or any others you may know about. It would be nice to hear from someone that has used an a/c compatible manifold before as well. I just want to make sure that before I save and spend so much money, these style manifolds will be worth it for my particular application.

I will be looking to make upwards of 330whp+ on my build, which by what Calesta has told me, is quite a conservative goal the way that I am going. 400whp could easily be achieved with patience and planning easily.

Thanks to everyone in advance for their input. :D

EDIT: Here is another site that I found with a mini ram/dump tube combo.

So far I have had people comment that the PeakBoost Ramhorn (second link) looks to have the best welding job, hence why the price is higher. The first Ramhorn made by Synapse seems to be the best value to me because it offers both the Ramhorn manifold and dump tube combo for almost the price of just the PeakBoost Ramhorn.

Everyone may feel free to comment on all three manifolds.

A friend of mine had a minfold from go-auto works and it had leaks in it. May have been just that one but il never have one because of it. Just my input

I appreciate the input, austin. That would make me not want to get a manifold myself as well. It could have been an isolated incident too but that would still make me wonder about them. Which manifold did he get from them and why was it leaking, do you know? Was it because of poor manufacturing?

Luis, I would get the Synapse mani if I were you. These two manifolds are extremely comparable in quality, Synapse just doesn't ask as much because they are somewhat new on the scene. I LOVE Synapse products though. I have the synchronic BOV and Wastegate on my setup, and they both work flawlessly. No boost creep, and not a sign of compressor surge. Good stuff.

They will be able to accomodate your needs on the flange for the turbo. Just make sure you call them so you can tell them what you're doing and make sure you get the right stuff the first time. They'll take care of ya.

 for another guy doing a B-Series turbo setup THE RIGHT WAY.

Peakboost will make any manifold you ask them to. Flange, bend, etc. If you're doing something wierd, I'd have them make it.

Beware of synapse manifolds. a quick browse on their site suggests that they don't make the manifolds. This could mean that someone on eBay is using their name.

Another option is to cast your own. Just putting this out there.

Thanks for the input, Matt. That is what I was thinking about Synapse. I talked with the guy out of South Carolina that is going to be doing the headwork for my build and he said that they are very good as well. I'll tell you what man, if I am going to do this build once, then I am DEFINITELY going to do it right. :D Figuring out which BOV and Wastegate is going to be another task as I am not sure which Wastegate size I should use. I'm having issues remembering their sizes now, as I am at work and it's been a cluster today. Wooo! Any suggestions on those as well as links would be greatly appreciated. Feel free to ask any questions you need to in order to perhaps be able to provide a suggestion or two.

Thanks for the input as well, Doug. The only "weird" thing that I will be doing is actually running my a/c with my build. haha A lot of people want me to get rid of it but heck, it's Florida, it's hot and yeah, it wouldn't be very comfortable or make much sense to me. After all, it will be somewhat of a daily driver, depending on how much I alternate it with my hatch.

I will take more time and make sure that Synapse is actually a quality product, though I have had a few people tell me of their good experiences with their product. Believe me, if I could cast my own manifold I would. I just do not have the tools nor know how to do so.

Who is your friend? And what do you mean by "leaks in it". We have never had an issue with the quality of our mini rams. Why didn't your friend contact us if he had any issues at all?

That is what I am wondering as well, GO. Nice to see you guys on here. Perhaps you can shed some light on your manifolds as they have been suggested to me as well from the person doing my head work. To me it will all come down to quality and the final price may influence as well somewhat. Please feel free to chime in the thread about your a/c compatible manifolds. I am sure we can all learn something from your information.

Thanks, the mini ram we offer isn't a/c compatible (which also makes me wonder about the above complaint, if the person with the "leaking" manifold is on an a/c setup then it didnt come from us)
We've had a lost of request for an a/c mini ram and it will definitely be in the works, but it will honestly be a few months down the road before they are well into production.
As for Peakboost, they are great manifolds, along with Synapse. PB has been at it a bit longer, and produces a large quantity. I've seen their manifolds 1st hand and they look great. I have not seen a Synapse in person, but have seen alot of their work, which all looked well crafted. I'd get on the phone and talk to each one and ask whatever question you want to ask. Ask for theire opinion on your particular project as well.

(FWIW, from searching there is some "RSS BOT that posted a "GO-AUTOWORKS" manifold on ebay as well..that clearly isn't one of ours, I emailed that seller when that auction was open and never got a response)

Yeah, I wouldn't give up my A/C either, and I hail from colder places. A/C helps me not get a migraine, it's complicated, but it's an essential for any of my cars.

Hell, I'm buying a 74 260z, and I'm going to install AC in it, no matter what the cost.

When I was prepping my build, a lot of folks wanted to buy my AC from me. Yeah, I wouldn't say that AC+turbo is very common. I guess it's the fact that if you're putting a turbo on, generally you don't want any parasitic losses.

Btw, when you get to the point of charge pipe and intercooler, PM me, and I'll help you out with the math.

That makes perfect sense to me.

I'll be sure to leave the a/c off when I am hauling ass. haha

I remember your turbo build thread and all of the great information you provided in it, Doug. I will definitely be talking to you when the charge pipe and intercooler time comes, though I would not mind some guidance now, as I am starting to do my research for parts.

Ass for the rss bot, thats just an ebay rss feed, so we don't control whats in it.

Holy shit, B. I think I just creamed my pants a little. That kit makes perfect sense. It has EVERYTHING I could possibly need, unless there is something I am missing and wow...I'll be damned but it can make a shit ton of power. Thanks for posting that.

It had a leak in one of the welds... He did make contact and they sent him a new one with a little bit of an upgrade... even though the new one was shipped at his expense. But as for the quality of the second one AMAZING, its just that I'm a one time guy, I dont like to have any downtime(shipping and such). But yea diffently keep them in mind.

Hate the some what thread jack but what is the diffrence between a mini ram and a ramhorn??

Please elaborate on the "ouch" Doug. That kind of scares me.

It says a lot that they at least took care of him, though it does suck that he had to pay for the shipping. Still, I am sure your friend is very happy with his purchase now.

From what I understand, one obviously flows more than the other. The Ramhorn is also equal length.
