My D16Y8 is done and I can get a D16Y5 for a very good price but I am wondering if it will work with my current setup if I only swap the engine and retain my P2P ecu and EX wiring harness?

It will run like crap because the VTEC-E activates around 3000 rpm while the Y8 VTEC activates at around 5000, they also have very different fuel maps and are desingned for very different applications. You'd be better off either getting the right ecu or fixing the Y8.

Ok well if I get the correct ECU (P2N), will my EX engine harness work with that?

It will except for the EGR sensor (no connector on EX harness) and thats it as far as I know. Just make sure you get a P2N that matches your harness (harness should be OBD2B if car is a 98)
