a fool and her money are soon parted.

she was old and fell victim. the sad part is that it was everything she had.

Spears, who is a nursing administrator and CPR teacher, said she mortgaged the house and took a lien out on the family car, and ran through her husband's retirement account.

"The retirement he was dreaming of — cruising and going around and seeing America — is pretty much gone for him right now," she said.

She estimates it will take two years to clear the debt that accumulated in the more than two years she spent sending money to con artists.

Oh. My. God.

It's one thing to send the initial $100 and then, after they keep asking for more money, to get suspicious and quit sending cash. I personally would never send any money at all, but I can at least understand how naive people unfamiliar with the Internet can initially fall for this.

It's another thing completely though, to be refinancing your home and car and pilfering your husband's retirement account to throw hundreds of thousands of dollars at some person you've only ever communicated with over the Internet, against the advice of pretty much everyone you know. This woman is an idiot, plain and simple.

Watch, next week's headlines will read one of two things: the husband killed himself, or the husband killed her...

reason #513451346 our housing market sucks.

where the mortgage agent when she was going to re-fi?

agent-"hey, what are you doing with the money?"
dumb lady-"sending it to someone promising me $20,000,000 who i have never met in person."
agent-"ok, heres your loan"

somewhere the world has to step up. it's like a shakespeare story. there are just soooo many opportunitities for someone with 1/2 a brain to step up and say, "hey, this isn't right". but it never happens.

i compare mortgage agents to tattoo artists. some have integrity, some let you get a big penis tattoo'd on your forehead and let you look like a douche for all eternity.

greed and sloth man, w/ a lil duh thrown in, something for nothing. how bout nothing for something

I get stupid people letting me know that I have been deemed the "next of kin" of some guy in some island and that all I need to do is reply with my full name, social security number and address and I will be contacted...blah blah blah.

That's just sad.
