Working Hard
VIP
I got till February before I do my Corrections Officer Physical Exam with the California Department of Corrections and i'm planning to have dropped at least 15 lbs by then with improved cardio.

I'm on the tread mill 4 times a week for 45 minutes.15 minute warm up walk, 15 minute jog, 15 minute cool down walk. I do 120 (12 sets of 10) sit ups a day, 30 regular crunches, 60 side (30 each side) crunches, and 30 leg lift crunches. I also do 150 push ups a day.

I'll be starting Muay Thai again sometime in January so once I do, no more tread mill for me. Muay Thai is enough cardio for me.

OK, i'm not looking to go on an actual diet. I'm just trying to cut out things that I could do without like soda, eating before I go to bed, ect... However, I am also looking for healthier options for lunch and occasionally for dinner. I eat the worst for lunch since i'm busy while i'm at work and the only thing I have time for is fast food. My goal is to lose weight naturally so-to-speak. I'm just gonna let the lbs shed themselves through Muay Thai instead of trying to go all out with workouts and a full blown diet.

I started making turkey breast sandwiches on wheat with mustard only for lunch but i'm really starting to get tired of it. I'm looking for more variety that's quick and easy to make and actually taste decent. I tried the Healthy Choice soups from Cambell's and god they are gross. I actually felt naucious(sp?) after eating a can of Clam Chowder.

So does anyone got some good lunch ideas or maybe a link to a website I could check out?

Also, i'm finding it very hard to wash down my food with water, juice, or iced tea. It's like I need a carbonated drink which allows me to burp so I don't feel bloated after i'm done eating. Any suggestions on other drinks I should try with my meals?

kombucha. it is raw, organic, detoxifying, and naturally carbonated. i drink this stuff:

it's also really disgusting if you read about what it is/how it is made. so don't.

For the soda, ever tried just sparkling water?
Yeah and I cannot drink that shit lol. It taste like plain carbonated water to me :( but i've only tried one brand and it's the one that's in a green bottle that they sell at Starbucks. I forgot the name of it. I'll try some other ones and see if there's a difference.

I've never seen that stuff out here. i'll look for it though. You can't tell me not to read about how it's made and expect me to listen lol...

Haha, yea it does taste like shit. But it was just an idea maybe if you mixed it with some sort of fruit juice :dunno:

How about that sparkling fruit juice they sell for Thanksgiving?

For me. I don't drink while I eat. (when on a good diet)

Drinking fluids while you eat expands your stomach allowing you to eat a lot more. I drink water(only) after I eat, about 30 minutes after. If I am to drink while I eat its milk because it takes up a lot of room.

Juice, tea, etc are full of empty calories. They don't do anything in terms of muscle rebuilding or sufficient glycogen stores, but more along the lines of pure sugar.

lololol, doesn't it have all sorts of fake sugars and crap in it?

I thought that stuff was bad for you?

Shhh!

i think you got that mixed up with Crystal Meth.. hahah

If you mix it with Crystal Meth it makes you feel like you can FLY! :D

Is there anything that is truly real nowadays which is actually good for you? Nay. I'll take my chances with fake shit. haha

Ermmm....diet soda? I don't know how you feel about it, but I used to vow that I would never drink it, but then I starting forcing myself to get it when I went out to eat and now I'm kind of used to it. Still not the best thing for you, but it will cut some calories and still give you that carbonated option you're looking for. I've found that Coke Zero and Diet Dr. Pepper are probably the best-tasting of the diet sodas...

honestly what has wored the best for m is to eep buisy and eat one meal a day,and a couple small snacks throughout the day..
TRUE STORY,i lost 10lbs in 2 weeks just doing this, ate a normal sized dinner(no seconds) eat some crackers, goldfish, whatever through the day,and itll just come off

Cut all sugar. Don't sugar anything, don't drink or eat sugary things.

Trade everything for whole grain. Noodles, bread, tortillas, etc. Avoid potatos.

Go to GNC and buy a jar of "colon cleanse". Jesus christ that stuff is violent but it will clean you out. If you haven't done it in a while, its an easy 5 pounds right off the bat.

Drink shit loads of water. Eat fruit, carrot chips, get those no fat salad spritzers and eat lots of salad. Green tea is also awesome.

Spaghetti with whole grain noodles and diced chicken breast (add all the onions, bellpeppers, etc. you want) is awesome

Stir fry (use olive oil) with brown whole grain rice. I use the wal-mart asparagus stir fry veggies in the frozen foods section, little bag, like $1.50 or something, very cheap. Add a sliced chicken breast and some soy sauce and you are in business.

Tacos. Dice the everloving shit out of chicken breast and use it instead of beef. Use pico de gallo instead of cheese and sour cream for flavor.

Tunafish sandwitches, but squeeze lime in the tuna instead of mayo. Different flavor, some love it, some hate it.

Round out your meals. Be sure to cover half your plate in veggies and have some form of whole grain bread. Whole grain bread, toasted in a toaster is pretty generic and goes well with anything. Lean meats only.

Eat yogurt or apples or something between meals and keep the meals small. It'll boost your metabolism rate if you eat lots of small meals vs a couple of big ones.

Can of slim fast for breakfast. seriously. Healthy and they now taste half decent. Well, some of the flavors. Chocolate is good, strawberry is ass. Cappucino is.. half ass half good. But it has hunger inhibiters in it, which will keep you from destroying a package of bacon or a box of donuts in the morning.

i've been on a vitamin water kick lately. there is some sugar in it, but not nearly as much as soda.

Phyregod, your advice is GREAT and right on the money! Rep!

Any type of change will make a difference, B. I have gotten people to just switch over to diet soda and they have lost weight. Soda is just full of crappy calories, refined sugars and simple carbs.

But making the simple switch from regular to diet... will yield dramatic a result. You will be less sluggish, piss more and slow your urge all together for regular soda. I only drink Vitamin Water if I know I am going to work out due to the high calories... and the considerable amount of sugars. You really want to gain your sugars from fruits and vegetables.

Take it from someone who has lost over 90 pounds in slightly under 2 years... I have taken breaks from dieting hardcore for months at a time, and numerous hiatuses from the gym... but i still have energy. I still eat carbs... ie. honey wheat bread, whole wheat hamburger rolls, whole wheat pasta, and wheat pitas. I also drink beer on the weekends, and if I am out I will eat fries and not worry about wheat substitutions.

My common foods are tuna, turkey burgers/boca burgers, grilled or baked chicken, and healthy snacks. I usually snack on granola bars, nutrigrain bars, cliff bars, sun chips or peanuts. Those are all great sources of nutrition in their own way. Ill take 2 to 3 with them to work, and be satisfied all day. I usually bring a balanced lunch which varies... but I may take the day off and get pizza. Its all about finding your comfortable zone and sticking with it.

Great advice phyregod! I'd rep you if I could, someone do it for me.

All I know is that if you cut out sodas (and I know it's hard sometimes -- we all need that carbonation) and junk food snacks, and also keep to semi-healthy daily meals (like what phyregod was saying about 50% veggies) you should be in good shape.

good luck and lose some pounds for the rest of us!

Thanks for the advice guys. Phyre rep'd :)

I've also heard that diet dr pepper is decent. Maybe i'll try that stuff and see how it works out for me.

How do you guys feel about ground turkey instead of ground beef. Is it better?

No one mentioned it surprisingly... Drinking. When my friend said one good night of drinking destroys a week of work, I didn't believe him. But it is 100% true. This friend also has a has a BS in Exercise Science and wrote the workout plan that has me down 30lbs. since May/June. I know take his health advice to be fact.

And PhyreGod did hit the nail on the head. I wish I could eat like that but I live at home and it's just not in the cards. I actually did eat like that at school. Not to push the health benefits to the side, but eating this way will also save you a lot of money.

Fast food and things like it are expensive and don't fill you up. Veggies and chicken are cheap. So are whole grain anything. Just remember, it doesn't need to be organic. Shop Rite brand whole grain pasta is dirt cheap and serves it's purpose. I hate this whole "organic health" kick everyone is on. Look at a package of Kashi cookies. 100% organic, 100% terrible for you.
