I found out monday that my grandpa was in the hospital for sodium deficiency and that my grandma was going to move into my parents house for the time being so that they could keep an eye on her while he's in.

Well, he's still there and was apparently very disoriented, trying to change the tv channel with his cell phone and pulling on things etc. My mom calls and asks me to go out and keep him company until he wanted to get some sleep. I go out there as my sister pulls up with her horde of kids (4 kids... 7 yrs, 2 1/2 yr old twins and a 1 year old)... and we hang out with my grandpa for an hour and a half.

It really wasn't surprising, my grandma never uses salt or any salt substitutions in any of her cooking (she's an overzealous health nut, which makes this extremely ironic...) so something like this was bound to happen.

Now here's where things take a twist, I learned today before all this that my grandma was in a different hospital, for what i'm not sure, but they're running a crapload of tests on her.

Just last week they were sitting in our coffee shop, laughing and talking and just being normal elderly folk (they're both in their 80s). Now they're both in being treated.

He's a WWII vet so he's in the VA hospital and my grandma is in one of the normal hospitals up north. I still have to figure out what she is in there for, but BOTH of them within 2 days get put in the hospital.

I'm sure they'll both pull through and live on into their 90s, but this kind of puts things into perspective.

Thanks guys. Being in hospitals suck, going there brought me back to 93 when I watched them turn the respirator off for my dads mom. I wish I'd left before they did that, watching the machine flatline kinda tore me up.

I dunno if I'm ready for anything like this again.

it's weird how things happen like that.

my dads parents died within 3 weeks of each other.... and they were 10 years apart in age.

best wishes that they come home soon.

Definitely in my prayers man. I've been there before and I know what its like.

I hope they pull through.

I'm sorry to hear this. Your grandparents will be in my prayers.

At that. My mom has been in the hospital since last wednesday. She had a 5 hour neurological/ent surgery to try and remedy a spinal fluid leak she has had for the past two years that cause serious tremor headaches. Her recovery isn't going well and she's been seriously dehydrated so they're going to hold her for probably a few more days, hopefully sooner.

Well my grandma had low sodium and a tear in her esophogus they repaired that and she's already been discharged.

So she is doing better now, but no word on your grandpa yet?

He's just layin in the hospital and they're doing the normal blood work, tests, etc.

Well the good news is that they're both out of the hospital. My grandma is living with my aunt (the eldest) for the evenings, and going to stay with my cousins' wife during the day.

My grandpa got stuck in an old folks home for the time being so they can keep an eye on him and put him through some physical therapy to get the strength in his legs back.

He's freaking miserable in there, hates every little bit of it and can't wait to go home. I took him a cup of coffee this morning from our shop and he was excited to see someone he recognized and have a good cup of coffee instead of the "crap they serve here". lol

Before they'll release him though they have to inspect his house to make sure he'll be able to move around with the walker independantly, so we have some work to do in rearranging furniture and removing all his area rugs from the hallways, etc.
