Ok so got a 96 civic OBD2
What I want is a gsr.
Here comes the problem
I would like to use hmotorsonline.com, but all I can find is OBD1, which is the 94-97 GSR
From my understanding the only OBD2 gsr's are the 97-01.

So basically what im asking is where would you guys get the motor from. And am I wrong about any of this?

EDIT:
Should i just convert it all to OBD1, thats just replacing the ecu, right?

Been trying to understand this ecu shit but its soo confusing, been reading for like 2 weeks.

call HMotorsOnline.... talk to Steve... tell him you need an OBD-2 GSR swap... he will give you the price... pay him... get your engine in about a week... put the bitch in your car

i modded my stock D16Z6 harness to work on my 01 B18C\R swap... looks completely factory... if you have some skill working with wiring and spend a little time making sure it looks and fits good it will come out fine... if you have no skills then sure you will get spaghetti... it cost me nothing to mod my own harness
 
you've got it wrong.. 96-98 is obd2a.. 99-01 is obd2b ... call them and ask for a obd2a GSR swap ..
 
so who wants to give me alittle bit of a crash course in obd... not asking for a complete hand out, just confused about them and how the relate to ecu, if they do at all lol

so i have obd2 now, so when i get obd2 gsr all i have to do is get the wiring harness form rywire and it will be plug and play right?

Another problem is that i was told to get a basemap form pherable.net and all that have is for obd1 and hondata is only for obd1 so how would i go about doing all this.

Been lookig for some obd forums all morning cant really find any that can help me... sorry i sound like such a noob
 
Each OBD version has a different ecu. They are not directly compatible.

If you plan on keeping the motor stock, stay with OBD2a. You need the corresponding OBD2a ecu and you can use your stock harness. No rywire necessary there.

If you ever plan on tuning it, you should go OBD1 as it's the most viable tuning platform at this time unless you go K-series. If you go OBD1 it's best to get a conversion harness from rywire. I did for a while and ended up rewiring my whole engine harness in my OBD2b 2000 Civic with OBD1 JDM B16; so I can say wiring the whole thing is not that hard. Just size up lengths of wire, and have a harness you can cut up and use the plugs from. Do a good soldering job and heatshrink all the joints. If that doesn't sound like fun, buy the conversion harness.

Going OBD2a would be easier, but really can't tune it effectively.
 
OK so when i get finally get my motor get a obd1 and a obd1 ecu and the wrining harness from rywire and i should be set right.. the only thing that confuses me is because its obd2 now... omg i sound like a noob
 
O yeah and as far as law goes, it's illegal in my county to do a backwards OBD conversion. Butt fuckit. lol. I don't care. I registered it in another county. Hence my name. Luckly we have a county close by that doesn't emissions test. All my friends get away with doing that too.......
 
yes your right with the corresponding ecu and engine OBD specs. and further more you want the ecu that corresponds to the engine from the factory, unless you chip it in which case it must be an ecu that can run your engine's programing. And you can only chip OBD1.
 
Oh they do have the OBD2something conversion from hondata, but don't be fooled. You won't pass emissions with it. The ecu is OBD1 and does not support even half of the emissions devices the chassis is factory equipped with and also won't register with their computerized scan tool.
 
not all you would need.. but that would suffice for a tuning solution and has datalogging which is awesome unlike the free crome.
