Well shit, for the 2nd time in 3 days I decided to lock my damn keys in my civiy again:beat: guess asking my girlfriend to marry me this week has got me all flipped out. Anyways I don't feel like spending another $48 to have it unlocked, but I'm sure the locksmith is loving it! So if I call me local Honda dealership, and give them my vin# can they make a key that way? Thanks for the help

no. because then everybody could just call, get the key, and steal the car.

get a spare key and put in on your underbody or have it available so you can call someone and have them bring it to you. smart people dont' have just 1 key for a car.

I have 2 keys damnit, so don't be a smart ass, it's not working otherwise I wouldn't be posting this. I worked at a chevy dealership and we did that exact thing.

well, in the time that you have been posting this, you could have called honda already.

but to answer your question, no, you need the code on the lock tumbler.

Never heard of a 24 hour Honda dealership, anyways got it taken care of. thanks for the input, better get a freaking key thats gonna work.

I called in keys for my Acura. They came in cut and ready to go. Just gave them the vin. But they had to order them, they weren't cut on the spot.

Have a copy made, and chop most of the head off of the key.. Leave just enough of a nub to be able to twist it while it is in the lock. Toss it in your wallet and never have this problem again.

As far as right now? Call your buddy the locksmith and pray he doesn't fuck your door up while fishing for the lock rod.

Okay, so everyone can steal a car then since the VIN is visible on the windshield?

Wow I'm glad I have an alarm on my car. Someone could just have a key made and unlock my door.

you can call any dealership and have a key made from a vin# but they are required by law to have you show proof of ownership when you pick up the key. Did this about 8 months ago for my 91 prelude and they had the exact key in stock made a copy of it ad off i went.

yeah they can call up on your vin's and get the key made like several of the posting said. UNLESS! you've changed lock cylinders on your doors, trunk, and ignition. then. that little honda call and vin trick will no longer work. or do like what i had to do when i switched dashes, pull the vin thing off the dash. (was the wrong vin and didnt want to get in trouble for having a 95 hatch back vin)

yes you can go and get a key with a vin, but you need more than that your gonna have to prove you own the car then they will make a key

my keys go straight from the ignition to my hand to my pocket, every time. end of story. i also have a spare at home and at a friend's house.

i leave the lights on sometimes though (especially on rainy days).

:sigh:

wait soooo..your spare key doesnt work?? time for a new spare my friend... thats like having a flat spare tire

Ahh that makes more sense.

Either way, I won't ever have to worry about keyholes on the exterior of my car ;)

some dealers will require you to bring in your title to verify and cut you a key. i had to do that with my crx.

There's also the option of going to the junkyard and getting a spare driver or passenger window, but more of a pain than its worth.

my friend got a Mazda 3, and the emergency key that he got doesn't unlock the car LMAO don't buy mazdas, the $200 upgrade airbags didn't work when his car slid off a cliff.

also honda far back as i can remember have a no lock out safety thing so you cant lock your self out with the keys in it unless you locked the drivers door then got out the passenger side
