I am looking do Vtec my ls , but i have a few questions like.
-how long will it take
-What parts do i absolutely need , and which parrts can i substiute for less expensive ones.

Please info from ppl who have done the swap , want ppl with experience .

when building a motor, why would you want to go on the cheap? if you do something cheap, it will break. then you will have to spend money to repair it. in the long run, it will cost more than to have built it right the first time.

when building a motor, why would you want to go on the cheap? if you do something cheap, it will break. then you will have to spend money to repair it. in the long run, it will cost more than to have built it right the first time.

if you don't know what you need to do the swap, odds are you have very little mechanical experience.

I would personally suggest just doing a small turbo setup or if you want to stay n/a, just get some really good cams, i/h/e and a great tune. you would be faster than ls/vtec for about the same money.
 
Based on research I have done, you will need about $3k to put together a well-built LSV. That is assuming you already have the head and block and will just be purchasing internals and paying for machine work.

If you shop around, you could probably find stuff cheaper, but it's a rough number. And if you are going to build it, get it tuned. If you can't spend the money to get your car tuned so it runs right, then don't bother building it--you will be wasting your time.

Read the damn article that was linked to. It's a perfect walk-through with an extensive parts list. Cost will depend on what you're going to do with it (just straight up LS/VTEC or add additional upgrades)...
