ok so it seems that alot of people prefer say an h22 or another engine over an f22 every time. some people even go as far as to hate the f22. but ive heard from a few people who know very well what they are talking about that the f22 is a pretty good engine to build onto. so my question to you is why do you not like the f22?

i dont have a problem with it at all....its probably the most powerful honda sohc...i have a friend with one in his 93 accord and i think it has plenty of power but is still no race car

Ive seen a few boosted ones that are pretty quick. Its just that with b series, even d series there are more parts avaliable for it. Oh and h series.

Bisimoto changed that. He has parts for the F-series and has one of the most powerful All-Motor Honda 4-cylinders; like +460whp F22A in a Honda Insight(I believe his best time to date is in the 9.4s, if not that it's definitely in the 9.5s).

The F22A has ports similar to the K20A also. What was considered so bad about the F22A is really just the large stroke. Reinforced internals would help that problem.

I dont think it was that low I thought it was closer to 9.7 9.8 but no matter what the time is it is still really fast for a sohc honda

Trust me, it's much lower than that. It should be posted in his signature on the other forums; he had a thread a couple weeks ago when he busted into the 9.4s.

Edit: here it is: "2006 Insight Unibody, F22A:
9.42 @ 146mph"

My del sol has a jmd h22 in it and it made 179 hp on a dynojet (losing compression in cylinder 1) while the stock s2k made 180 hp (dunno what year it was) so like squeegee said, the H would have more aftermarket parts for it, i dont see to many f22 parts out there

+1 Ive had 2 f22a accords and they were both great, never a engine problem. Everybodys just hung up on vtec.

Best Oem mods to a F22a engine are a H23 intake manifold, f22a6 camshaft, Good 4-2-1 Header, H23/H22 transmission are a good place to start. I want me another accord 90-93, love the bady style. Its now possible to use K24 pistons in a F22X block as well for better compression. F22b/H23 head swaps....lots of stuff you can do with those engines.

Read a book on engine mechanics and realize that most people are preachers of their own opinion and should be taken as a grain of salt.

yep. it's kind of like debate teams. you don't really have to have an opinion either way, you just put out why one is better.

owner A could like "f"
owner B could like "h"

whoever can make a more relevant argument will basically "win". it's up to you to decide what makes an engine better. Is it cost, hp, tq, weight, compression....there is no "better" in the world of engines. just "best for you".

Technically no body will win because there's always a trade off.

ie; an H22 will make more power out of the box than an F22, but an F22 has much higher potental than an F22, naturally aspirated, when fully built.

you missed my point. the winner of an argument is defined by who can make a logical and concise argument in an efficient and understandable manner.

it's up to "you" or the buyer to determine which is better based on information provided. neither can be proven to be better. they are different. take it for what it's worth.

And that's my point; there's really no argument of what's better or best. In this case, there isn't really an argument at all. The question was why the F22 is considered to be terrible; and people gave their views and opinions; consensus is it's just not popular.

The "winner" would've brought up all points about the two subjects and pretty much give the person an option of what to pick based on the information provided(pros and cons of each) instead of giving an argument about what they think is best.

bah, it's just stupid. anyways, OP, do some research and find whats right for you. nobody can tell you what is best. you have to decide what makes an engine best FOR YOU, then buy that one. they are all so different.

being hung up on vtec is the whole point to building a honda motor its the selling point over the other brands out there you can make any front wheel drive turn no doubt so having an engine advantage is key and thats what vtec offers not to knock on non vtec motors which are fine but id rather have it than not. ive had an f22 accord too and it ran fine..... for a daily driver
