Subaru out of WRC....wowzers

Looks like racing is going way of the dinosaurs until the economy improves. I'm neither here nor there on the topic, as I only watch it occasionally.

i'm indifferent about it. but i know that it is a staple in the car world. win on sunday, sell on monday. i've heard that many times.

I think the professional scene is what is going to hurt the most. I feel that the average Joe will still hit the track, and will still purchase cars and parts, but the sponsored sports will be the ones that end up with the smelly end of the stick.

NBA NFL etc etc are laying off people
i guess so many owners of arena football wanted to sell their teams, so 2009 is a year of restructuring to make a comeback in 2010

i saw the afl is taking a year off. that is a lot of people out of a job. they might not be able to come back though. nfl europe closed down too, but that is permanent.

fuck...i just thought about this...

you know, all that is going to be left on tv is more shitty reality shows like "the hills". intelligent society is going to crumble.

i dont think intelligent society watches much football. im thinking if anything we will see the comeback of the educational programming in place of a lot of the sports and junk shows they put on now.

i know, i was referring to the potential increase in horrible reality shows.

i like reality tv. fifty cent money and power, shot at love, parking wars, america's best dance crew, dragon's den. (last 2 count as reality?-contestants)
sad to see subaru drop. but more chances for privateers now, and i haven't watched since they pulled wrc from speed. it could be like the old racing days all over again.
95b16coupe for ur sig i gotta say i prefer 'it is better to have others think you a fool, than to open your mouth and confirm it'

pininfarina is hurting too.

Toyota. would stop construction of its $1.3 billion manufacturing facility near Tupelo, Miss., as it cuts costs around the globe. The plant was set to build the Prius, but all plans are now on hold. Prius sales were down almost 50 percent in November in the U.S. from the previous year

Honda has canceled the Acura NSX supercar

With Japanese automakers - and Japanese companies in general - reeling, the yen rose against the dollar again, to the highest level in 13 years, adding to the financial doom and gloom in Japan. That Japan, Inc. has relied on yen manipulation for years and years to add to their profits is well known. Just how much they depended upon that policy is starting to become perfectly clear.

Toyota. Its annual U.S. dealer meeting was canceled to save around $1 million.

Wendelin Wideking, the Porsche CEO (aka Piech's "boy"), was the auto industry's highest paid executive, earning close to $100 million in 2007.

Green This. A $4.3 million verdict originally rendered against Toyota in 2005 for infringing patents in order to bring its Hybrid Synergy Drive system to market was upheld by the U.S. Supreme Court. The original ruling came from a federal trial jury in Texas, which found that Toyota had used a microprocessor design that accepts torque information from both an external electric motor and internal combustion engine patented by Paice LLC, a McLean, Va., company, for its Prius. Toyota may have to pay Paice royalties for any future hybrid vehicles produced. It's ironic that Toyota had to crib a U.S. company's technical expertise to become America's Jolly Green Car Company, isn't it? (5/14)

You remember Tesla, right? The chip-head geniuses who were going to teach Detroit a thing or three about making cars and the car business? Oops. Looks like all is not shiny and happy for the Tesla gang. Automotive News reported late today that a story in the San Jose Mercury News has Tesla running low on cash and that as many as half of its 200 workers would be laid off. For the record less than 50 of the $109,000 Tesla Roadsters have been delivered. Tesla chief investor Elon Musk is replacing Ze'ev Drori as CEO, while Drori will become vice chairman, according to the Mercury News. Gee, that will make a huge difference. Not. Musk also said Tesla would delay its next model and close its suburban Detroit operations (the operations they had to set-up when they realized they didn't have a frickin' clue as to what they were doing). Musk had this to say on the company's website: "Our goal as a company is to be cash-flow positive within six to nine months. To do so, we must continue to ramp up our production rate, improve Roadster contribution margin and reduce operating expenses. At the same time, we must maintain high production quality and excellent customer service." Hmm, sounds like car making 101 too us. Too bad you guys thought you could shortcut your way to success.

Toyota and Honda are both extremely fearful that if one of the Detroit Three goes down, it will take their shared suppliers down with them (like ford)

Okay I know we all have this question in mind. I'm gonna say it.

WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY GOING?
IS IT JUST VANISHING?

It never existed in the first place. This is what happens when you print money out of thin air and loan it to anyone who asks.

And I hope we start seeing more SCCA runoffs, and GT-cup-esque races on tv now instead of just super cars duking it out.

Im not thinkin this is gunna be good for the average Joe at the race track. If teams are buyin all these "race only" super expensive parts, what do you think is gunna happen when that market dries up? Manufactures are gunna just accept that they are no longer gunna make as much money as before? GTFO. Theyre gunna bend average Joe over once more, and give it to him even harder. One nice thing though, all these weekend warriors who are fabricators for a living wont stand for this forever. After gettin rapped for a year or so, more and more home garage based shops are gunna start poppin up offering parts for fractions of what big production shops charge. Hopefully, then some passion will come back to motorsports. It wont all be run by ppl tryin to get rich. Itll be run by ppl who grew up turnin wrenchs all week so they could make it to the track on Saturday.

And if people bring said motorsports back from the dead and start making some serious coin, the big corporations will push them out of business and take it back over.

Itll all start over again like it started in the 50's. Ppl will start makin names for themselves and jackin the prices of their goods way up. Just like Keith Black, Carrol Shelby, Vic Edelbrock, and Jack Roush. At least Ill be able to pick cheap parts up for a while lol.

That's the cycle... But it's our turn now! :D

^ Lol, werd. Ive already got blue prints, estimates, and customers. I just gotta make a production run to get me off the ground. Id also like to branch out away from F-Bodies for my first run, try to get a nice chunk of change so I can tool up. We'll see lol.

I'm gonna see how i do at exhaust fabrication, since its just about the simplest and least costly parts you could make. no computers involved or anything. but thats gonna be after i join the navy and i have some free time and all that..

but still if im get good at it, i'll start building some parts custom tailored to specific applications (turbo manis to fit various turbos etc) It's something I have wanted to learn for a while, but never had a chance.

So, since I'm most likely going to pick the welding intensive jobs in the navy, then I should be able to do some simple stuff like exhaust pretty damn well. It's will be a great way to make some extra dough in my free time, and make friends in the process. Good deal in my book.
