Crazy Insane
Hey guys,
Well I picked up a 2001 civ coupe today! I'm very much enjoying it, it's like my EF but more excellent in every way :D Just wondering if there are any common problem areas I should check out, or anything like that? Any advice would be much appreciated, I'm going to pick up some oil/filter, air filter, and some other general stuff like that tomorrow and get the beast primed up. And I'll post some pics.
It's a 2001 Coupe, 132000 kms, 17 non vtec, 5spd, red exterior... bone stock except for a rock deflector on the hood :D

the interior hood release latches tend to snap off after time, be careful with that. thats all i can think of right now.

Sweet I'll be careful! My passenger front mudflap is hanging by one screw right now, not exactly excellent. I picked up some goodies for a tuneup today so hopefully tomorrow I can get rid of the 'Maintenance Required" light on the dash :D
For some reason crappy tire didn't have 2001 civics in their book of spark plug wires...?! I ended up not getting that stuff. Kind of sucky but what can you do?

EDIT) Can anyone recommend a spark plug/wire combo that is in any way superior? I realised today I don't really know anything about them.

Stock parts for a stock car.

Your maintenance required light is designed to go off after a certain amount of miles. IIRC, you can reset it yourself. Get in the car and hold down the little button on your cluster (like you are resetting the trip meter). While holding the button, turn the key to the ACC position. Wait a few seconds, turn the key off, and then start the car.

Right on... but my car isn't stock anymore, it's got a K&N air filter now :D So now I need bigger injectors and a 4" exhaust for all that extra power I'm making...

I need NOS. And yo Harry-
I need it by tonight.

They didn't list any spark plug wires for your car because it doesn't use spark plug wires...pop the hood and have a look around...

Thanks for the heads up, I now know that my car is in fact slightly more advanced in the "spark" department than my EF was. Thanks for your support.

I've been looking at exhaust headers, any recommendations? I'm definitely going to get a new exhaust system, the stock setup is like 1 1/2 or something!! Very weak indeed. And no need for this catalytic conversion taking place directly in the way of my exhaust flow.

How much do you want to spend?

Man that Kamikaze header is pretty much exactly what I was looking for! :D
Kamikaze Header 01-04 13/4" CIVIC DX, LX [KAM-HCH15007] - $265.50 : ImportParts.com

That's about how much I'm looking to spend also. I was at Mopac the other day and they have a magnaflow exhaust system for 490$... I'm going to check out this shop tomoro and see how much they would charge for a 2 1/2 exhaust. The Magnaflow has a resonator and a muffler, I understand that magnaflow resonators do not harm performance that badly..? And no need for catalytic converters up here in oil country :D

Ok, so I've got a Hedman Chikara hedder, a "Racer Design' N1 style muffler, a high flow cat on the way in the mail (the stupid morsel forker sent me 4 springs for an atv or something instead of a cat... like seriously, wtf? fricking ebay) and now I am on the lookout for a resonator... then I have to fab out the o2 sensor bung hole pipe and hope the wires are long enough to reach... and finally i can have a custom exhaust on my new civ! :D I'll keep you posted.
