hey everyone i am new to this site and i have a problem...i just installed a b18b in my 94 civic and i love it the only problem is that when i shift at high rpms its hard to shift or it grinds..is it the trrans or the the preasure plate or the fork?...i replaced my clucth master and it is properly adjusted and their is no air in the system..i would hate to buy a new trans has anyone experienced this problem...please help..thanks everyone....

if anything it would be worn synchronizers. this is normal from excessive powershifting/shifting without being close to rev matching or from shifting without the clutch or without the clutch too much.

are you trying to powershift (shifting very fast trying to catch the next gear before the rpm falls too much)? that can wear them out and cause the grinds to happen. don't force it into gear. get used to somewhat rev matching. not like you would with a dog tooth gearbox but just close enough that your not stressing the synchros to do all the match work.

lmk if you understand what i'm sayin!

hey thanks for the input ...however i am just trying to shift normally at 5 grand and it its hard to shift or it grinds...so do yuo think it has nothing to do with the clutch or fork!!!

i got a whole 94 integra from and old lady it was crashed so i know it wasnt beatin on if that helps...

Well it doesn't have to be beaten on for the synchros to become shot. If someone doesn't fully use the clutch, it will wear the synchros out quicker.

The clutch may not be fully disengaging, but not likely. The shift forks I would assume to be ok else you would be missing gears completely or not being able to select a particular gear at all.

I would say the synchros are just worn if your casually shifting at 5k w/ the clutch. Try rev matching as if it were a dog box and see if it slides into gear like butter. Even with synchros it should feel that way if you properly rev match.

First things first, change out the trans fluid with good fresh honda MTF (2.3qts) and make sure it is at the proper level. Old/Crappy/Low fluid can cause these symptoms. Also, make sure the clutch pedal is adjusted properly. If the clutch is not fully releasing the pressure plate, that would also cause grinds/tough shifting. Pedal height should be ~6.5 inches from the floor to the pedal pad, and freeplay should be ~ 1/2 to 3/4 inch.

Always try the easy stuff first!

when i push the pedal down to the floor their is like a sudden pop sensation its hard to explain..i just want to feel everyones input...a clutch replacemnt would be alot cheaper then putting in a trans thanks everyone

word. and wow yes i totally forgot. do a transmission fluid change! cheaper than a clutch replacement.

i would rep u phyregod but it says i have to spread it around

yesss for sure!

I switched to Synchromesh by Pennzoil. The synchros match quicker and it allowed me to shift into 3rd faster with less effort

nice so i should take it to scrub a dub or where ever and have them change mine, mines about 50 K over due

and u think ill tell the diffrence?

depends on how bad your old fluid was.

I personally wouldn't take it to a place like that. I would do it myself tho, or take it to honda. No one is going to use synchromesh unless you bring it.

well i hate when kids come on here and post their problems and you never here from them again...i found the problem...the spring inside the clutch disc popped out and wedged itself inbetween the preasure plate and the clutch disc...after pulling the trans i didnt notice that untill i unbolted the presure plate...so if any one has a similiar problem like this their is a tsb from honda about this as well...they know about this problem...thanks everyone for the help!!!

well i dont understand that last comment?this is a thread that i made?i am far from a newb,i am a full time ase certified tech with 6 years everyday shop time experience....this problem that i had is not very common. i have only experienced this once before ...it was on a nissan and it made a bunch of noise, which mine kinda didnt make...the only reason why i am on this helpful website cuz their is a bunch of people on hear that actuallly know what they are talking about unlike other websites...but anyway thanks everyone for the input!!
