Boosting B16A2
Hi,
I have a B16A2 motor that is boosted right now, and i plan to put some gsr cams in with TypeR valvesprings, I was wondering if this will make a difference over the stock b16 cams and valvesprings??? I have read alot of info on gsr cams here before but i'm not getting the proper info, so i'm asking for your experience and knowledege...
Next will be how much more hp or torque do these gsr cams make over the b16a2 cams??? is it really worth putting the gsr cams over stock????

i actually did the b16 to gsr cam swap on my boosted b16 an it made a difference like night and day on my setup! i dont have the exact numbers of power i gained but the difference was noticeable.
 
Not sure if you really need type-r springs.

Thanks guy's for the info, seems like the gsr cams is the way to go...
yblegal: The reason for the typeR springs is for future upgrade when needed and saftey purpose, I have seen to many horror comments on people droping valves...so i'm just being cautious,
blwnsmke: Thanks for the help, i will be putting on these cams somtime this year... May be later I will give you guy's the run down on my motor set up that is being put together slowly, all because i'm taking my time and money little slow right now, you know how that go's......
 
I do have Skunk2 cams gears to install with the gsr cams...but i have heard that the typeR cams is better for N/A and the gsr cams is better for boosting....so my choice is the Gsr cams...

Whats your reasoning? GSR cams have lift and duration better suited to boost compared to type-r cams.

What turbo, manifold, dp are you running? GSR are good cams for mild turbo applications, but anything moderately aggressive and good head components, ITR cams will make more power when dialed in properly.

Turbo is a T3 45 trim with .42A/R coldside and .48A/R hotside, rated for 400HP, Turbo manifold is a Meutek castiron, and downpipe is a 2.75" into a 3" all the way out...the motor is stock internals with Aem fuelrail and Aem fuel regulator and the dsm 450 injectors with resistor box. Fuel pump is a walbro 255, and the intake manifold is a Skunk2 proseries. Ecu is a OBD1 with conversion harness obd2 to obd1 and chipped with crome software, I'm also using a 3 bar map sensor with a BDL 68mm throttle body. F1Racing stage3 clutch and pressure plate with the TypeR Flywheel.

The reason i'm using the small turbo is to keep the A/C and power steering and everyday reliablity of the car, but have some decent street power to make around a 13 second car on the race track...

Keep telling yourself that. Once you have the experience tuning a good turbo setup, you will change your statement. The ITR cams have proven to make really good power. My car made 25whp more on pump gas ITR cams vs. gsr and 40whp more on race gas than the gsr cams all across the board.

Because everything is fairly small on the turbo setup and you have not built the head.....to run the ITR cams, you should get springs, retainers and cam gears... I would keep the gsr cams on that setup. If you do the head mods, then the ITR cams would be a good step in future improvement.

If you read the reply i give before I already the springs cam gears etc, I just have to get the retainers now and then the head will be ported and polish then place the gsr cams with skunk2 cam gears and the srpings and retainers.....Personally i think people ask way to much for itr or ctr cams, I would rather spend the money on a set of Skunk2 turbo cams if i have to pay the price people ask for the ctr/itr cams...but thats my opinion......
 
itr cams do make power over the gsr's when a lot of the overlap is dialed out with gears/ But, to me, their price tag isn't worth the gain. it's so much easier (and cheaper) to just up the boost 1 psi and pick up more power for free :)

unless of course, you're already running 12312 psi :)

I totally agree with you on the price people asking for the itr cams, I will not pay the crazy price people ask, I rather go and pay a little more money and get the real deal some skunk2 or crower turbo cams and not have to worry about tuning out alot of the overlap....plus i will gain better performance and run a much safer reliable motor. The gsr cams makes great power from my experience from 300 to all the way 600+ hp...on a boosted motor. I think i'm sold on the gsr cams for a streetable safe and reliable boosted motor with some itr springs and retainers.....
