I got a 1989 Honda LX 4dr. auto. I am looking at motor swaps. Cannot make up my mind been leaning torwards the ZC or the D16A6 or D16Z6. really want Vtec though, but am wanting to get motor locally. like from usa cars and not importing. and wanting D series so no changing motor mounts and bull shit. just simple swap. Let me get some input on what to do.

d16z6 would be your best bet then. convert to obd1, run a p28, and be done with it. if you're dead set on purchasing locally you might also give craigslist a try.

and i have a 1989 civic lx not a si so i dont have multi port or the d16a6. that was a swap option. the D16Z6/Y8 swaps are calling for D16A6 parts and what is the difference between the PR3, PW0, or PS9. and what cars did the ecus come out of?

The p28 is from a 92-95 civic ex. its the ecu that runs the d16z6 stock.

You could use a y8 if you so choose. some people recommend one over the other but honestly they are very similar and you won't notice any appreciable difference between the two.

To do any kind of decent sohc vtec swap you will need to convert from dpfi to mpfi.

pr3 - from a jdm integra, runs the obd0 b16a
pw0 - from the jdm civic/crx sir, also stock ecu for the obd0 b16a
ps9 - its for an 88-91 civic 4-door EX with auto trans. basically identical to the pm6 88-91 Si ecu, only this one is for the auto trans equipped vehicle

Don't get a Y8, they spin bearings and are more expensive because they're newer.

Z6 FTW!

yep. i was going to mention the spinning rod bearings issue but for some reason at the time i thought he was talking about just a head swap, not the entire engine lol. that being the case yea definately go with the z6.
