Replaced all of the valves, because of a broken timing belt. Runs fine, but after sitting overnight or really revving, I get what it looks like white smoke, I'm not sure about the color though, it could be bluish gray...

Could valve seals be causing this, I didn't change them!

Also could under torking the head cause this condition?

Thanks for your help.

Usually bluish smoke means that you are burning oil. If you only get this while really revving it it may be that your head gasket isn't squished enough and under intense conditions a small amount of oil is leaking in but the valve seals can cause the same condition. I would say try tightening the head bolts first, since it's free, then if it still smokes go for the valve seals.

If you changed the valves and not the seals, Im willing to put money on the seals as the problem. Also, why would you not torque the head to specs?

Always torque to spec. Thats why there are specs.

But I'm willing to bet you're old valve seals are leaking.. Should have changed them with the valves.

Thanks for your responses guys!
I don't know why; I was only notified today. But I did do the that job over two years ago...
I do recall torking the head bolts to specs! I asked if maybe I might have under torked them, either because maybe my torque wrench might not be precise, or maybe beacause even though I torque them down, I didn't do a good job
As far as the seals, I don't recall changing all of the valve STEM seals
I dont recall if the head had valve SEATS, those I definitely DID NOT change

Can you guys tell me; what you mean by VALVE SEALS, and maybe if I could ask you for a PART number if you have it. Thank you I really appreciate your help.

Every head with valves has valve seats. It requires machine work to change those. The seals seal the valve stems, and keep oil from running down the valve stem into the chamber. If you replace valves and not seals they will leak.

Any O rings I should pay special attention to?

I did follow the torque "specs" and also the torquedown sequence pattern. Did say that my torque wrench might not be very precise, I will rent a better one and retorque all of the head bolts. I do recall installing new valve STEM seal also
Do you know if I need to pull the cams to get to all the bolts? And if there are special O rings I should pay special attention to? I'm sure the first time around I may have missed replacing some of the O rings. Thanks again

Go to you local parts store(napa, advanced auto, auto zone, ect.) and purchase yourselft a haynes manual. Read it, memorize it.

hey hondacivicdx92

Thank you for sound advice! What are you 16? People like me, come to this forum for sound advise, not to be told to go read and memorize a book!
If I had the time and inclination to read and memorize a whole book I wouldn't need you, would I...

if you would like some decent advise then don't come on here and state that you did not replace valve stem seal then turn around and state you did after asking what was meant when they were mentioned. That makes me question just how knowledgeable you really are. I'm not saying you are dumb but just maybe not very experienced which is fine, everyone is at different levels.

well i am 16 and i even read and memorized many haynes manuals... its kind of a must in the honda scene, if you dont have one aborone you should definately go to a parts store and pick one up, they are the best thing to have

First of all I never stated that the valve stem seals where not changed, I said I didn't recall because its been a while since I originally posted the problem... You can't expect me to remember every detail after over two years. By no means, I'm no expert in cylinder head rebuilding, that is why I'm trying to get some advice.
What makes you, such an expert? So far the only expert advise you've given is to "go and read a book" and make unhelpfull remarks!
I'm new to this forum, and I don't know you, I don't know how helpfull you've been in the past. But I hope you are not all, what this forum has to offer...

I do notice something, that some of you guys are short on helpfull advise and long on critisism

Its not you I was alluding to, if anything you helped and posted some good advise, I don't understand the lol part, but its ok...And; I don't the think the world revolves around me:rolleyes: Thanks

Since this is all from 2 years ago, I gotta ask, what ever happened with that motor?

Hi newb
The motor still in the Del Sol, which I drove the rest of summer in 06. Like I said; the car ran fine, except for the occasional puff of smoke...Its been storaged since For now, I just don't have the time to disassemble the cylinder head, and check what the problem might be. I have a feeling I might have either left out, or incorrectly placed one of the many O rings. At this time, I've put the repair aside, to concentrate on a restoration project, I've been working for a while...
