:eek:i just bought a stock civic ex...it's got the d16z6 si motor but, for me its not enough, i kno i could swap it but i wanna build it up first...i kno i can get intake full exhaust l/w flywheel etc, but what else for some hp boost? or should i just swap it?

i dont know alot about the d series engines. but i think most people like the b series. you could allways do a jdm h22 swap in there. you would have alot more hp then.

ya the h22 is my primary choice mainly cuz i wanna b diff from everyone around town, at least my neighborhood, and ya also the 200hp lol

JUST LOOK ONLINE. you can get them pretty cheap.

huh.......boost it. only 8psi.....you will have alot more hp then.
Dude, if you don't know anything about a topic, don't suggest it.

To the OP:
You're best bet here is to turbo the engine already in the car. For a little over the cost of an H22 swap (say $3k or so) you can have a reliably built 300+whp D16z6. This is a power level that would take you 5k+ to achieve even AFTER the H22 swap.

i'd love to own a boosted honda, but unfortunately the realities of emission testing keep that from hapening. if Pa is anything like Az, with any vehicle of that year that isn't AWD, you'll have to run an IM147 test, where your car is driven on a dyno simulating a normal driving cycle while a probe sniffs your exhaust. as you surely know, turbocharging will effect this in numerous ways. adding heat (which adds NOx emissions) and adding more fuel (which adds CO and even HC if you have large injectors and anyhthing less than an awesome tune.) passing emissions is just as important to me as having a fast car to begin with since a non-registered car is useless to me (i don't race, nor have the money to do so.) there are ways to make a turbo vehicle run cleaner, namely an awesome tune, but there are a lot of people who claim they can give you one, and only a select few capable of doing so.

there are some carb legal turbos.

there is NOTHING different or original about an h22 swap. not here, there or anywhere.

be original by being faster. turbo the engine.

buying part for an engine that your just going to swap out is like throwing money away.

just turbo the hell out of the D series it will cost you less in the long run for real power, if you know what you are doing. Just make sure to find a tuning solution before you start buying everything to bolt or fabricate up.

also it looks like he's in PA so it doesn't have to be carb legal, some counties here just make sure you have an exhaust hooked up and a cat.

nick you're correct, however being CARB legal and actually passing a IM147 test are two very different things. emission testing, like previously described, involves testing your vehicles CO, NOx and HC emissions. turbocharging will raise your vehicles output of all three, NOx mostly if you've got a small non-laggy turbo, CO mostly if you've got a larger turbo with some lag. raise them beyond the acceptable limit, and no matter if your setup is CARB certified or not, you fail. i'm not at all aginst turboing the D, or any motor for that matter. but having a 300whp civic that i can not register is worth absolutely nothing to me. like a couple people have stated, it's the easiest, most cost effective way to make real power. however Z6CRX just said in one sentence what i've been trying to get at, "make sure to have a tuning solution before you begin your build." +rep Z6

dont get an H22 because there heavy. I would stick with the z6, put some cam in there some valves, valve springs, get a cold air intake for a tad more torque and get a 2.75 inch exaust but keep the cat and vwalla, you have a nice respectable NA z6.

2.75 inch exhaust on a very mildly built NA z6? :shrug2:
