Lol, You know you can't reuse the head gasket and head bolts again right? Buying new head bolts for a D15 with the toilet bowl manifold is gonna suck lol.

Bullshit ill reuse everything and ill tighten the head bolts down with a impact gun... again.

and no im not kidding lol

Well I'll see how I can judge the reuse of the head bolts after I start my civic up Monday, but I torqued them down very meticulously to specs in the proper order. Using an impact is begging for problems. I think Calesta had one break off on him even using a wrench once:

There's the write up I used, I would recommend it. And considering you have already halfway pulled your engine, why don't you continue disassembling? I mean, you don't even make sense. So you plan to reinstall your intake manifold, distributor, reset the timing, use a new set of gaskets for everything (maybe, based on the way you talk), put belts and covers and accessories back on and then pull your motor from there?

Take it from someone who has actually done a few swaps and just keep going from where you are. I hope this is a project car and not your daily driver.

using an impact is a huge mistake. they need to be torqued lightly inside out, and then again a little tighter, inside out.

you should really get a helms.

re-using them, isn't too big of a deal... especially on a stock motor.

i dont have the exact numbers in front of me, but its something like this:

12 6 1 3 7 10
11 8 4 2 5 9

etc etc. inside out

:withstupid: If you use and impact gun you are def snapping bolts.

lol its a bs engine i already did it once and she ran fine. i actually started having problems which i found out to be the distributor.

I hit em with a impact and then tightened em more with a ratchet. :D

I know im a bit crazy. im sorry for that. JUST HIDE YOUR SHIT FROM ME! lmao

How do i add a poll to this thread?

You already did it once but this is your first time doing it?

At least change the head gasket out.. re-using it is just begging for problems. And like everyone else already stated.. re-using the bolts will be fine but don't go anywhere near them with an impact wrench. Proper torque is used for a reason.. you can over compress the head gasket and cause leaks, you can warp your head, strip threads, break bolts, and cause yourself all kinds of random problems.

When you torque a bolt, you actually stretch the metal of the bolt, and it holds the part on with a spring-force. Not just a solid brute force.. It has a little room to expand and contract with the heat of the motor and various pressures..

the proper torquing technique is
1. half of the torque spec.
2. half of half of the torque spec plus half of the torque spec. (example; spec 112ftlbs, step two = 56+28 = 84.)
3. final torque.
4. go back over and make sure everything is to final torque.

i understand getting bored and wanting to take shit apart, but i dont see the purpose if youre not gonna at least put in new gaskets and if youre planing on taking it all back out again tomorrow.. why are you taking it out again?

Sounds like someone in engine school.

I'd clean the shit out of that motor while its apart if it were me. Looks like dog shit.

I'm with everyone. At least get a head gasket, and also make sure its clean where the old one came off with degreaser, etc. Head gasket's are cheap, but driving down the road blowing white smoke is no fun. And don't use an impact. You'll hate yourself the minute you snap one.

I put this head gasket on about 50 miles ago. and if i break a head stud... ill get it out or scrap it. im not exactly worried about this engine.

Update. I hope you guys know i was kidding about even using that engine. here is where im at as of now. updates again soon.. maybe tomorrow.

doesnt matter..
youre NEVER suppose to reuse a head gasket.
what they do is, they expand when you torque the head bolts down, then they relax and thats when your suppose to go back over them and re-torque the bolts.

the funny thing is, a torque wrench is cheaper than an impact gun, thats why id rather use one. lol

So let me borrow it. :D
the shipping may cost more. go pay like $30+, a good one will run around 70 though,

Just dont get those crappy metered ones. get one that clicks when it gets to the torque rating.
