94 civic ex brake lights stuck on

hi ive got a 1994 ex

rear spoiler light is always stuck on if the battery is connected

when i turn the headlights on, the actual braking lights stay on like im always riding the brakes
,
but the brake lights go off when i turn the lights off.

only the rear spoiler light stays on

i thought maybey the switch but that doesnt explain the rear spoiler light

help! :\

Is the spoiler aftermarket? Have you changed the bulb recently? Have you done anything to your car recently to do with electrical?

nothing at all

i just noticed it one day. never used to do it so im not sure what kicked it off.

its a factory ex spoiler, but i do beileve it was swapped out for another stock spoiler, although it wasnt acting up previously.

sounds like feedback through the circuit. Sometimes the wrong bulb (one that works correctly but doesnt have the correct resistance) or a shorted wire can cause this. first things first you need to find where the power is coming from by probing the wires, since, for the brake lights for instance, its obviously not coming from the brake switch. Try pulling the park light fuse to see if the lights go out, or the brake fuse (if its a seperate fuse). Check your wires first where they go from the trunk to the car, as the opening and closing of the trunk can cause the wires to frey and short.

I'd say cut the wires to the spoiler and bondo it in, never need a light on it anywayz haha

Easy Fix for Brake Light Issue

There is a small, cheap rubber stopper on the brake pedal that actuates the brake light switch. Buy a new one at the Honda dealer. Less than $5.00

That happened to me, too.

You can also use a screw and a bolt instead. It's even cheaper. I had to do it to my last EG and it worked like a champ.
