As far as I know, it's bullshit. My friend works at a body shop and while they are doing something for pollution in terms of auto paints, he said the change isn't within the colors. The change is within the type of paint itself. They are making all body shops switch over to water-based paints.

I remedy the problem of a clean black car by rarely washing my car. Not worth it to me in cost of water and soap personally.

havent washed the bmw much... really should though. There's a rust bubble forming in underneath a spot in one of the rear fenders, it hasn't done anything since i picked it up.

with this reflectivity thing in place they'll start upping it slowly.. Solve the issue buy a car that's painted chrome.

I can see it now, tax credits for white cars. Then they'll move it to the roads, it will no longer be blacktop, its now whitetop. You can only guess where it will lead from there.

How about an easier solution... all black cars should have sunroofs or be convertible.

Seriously though, I personally love the look of black cars, I don't know what they're trying to pull

Water based auto paint?

eww. Thats going to suck.

It does. Germany switched to waterbased paints almost 8 years ago now, and they chip and peel more.

The hood of my civic after the body work has several chips, because the waterbased paint just isn't as hard. It sucks, and suddenly bodyshops are going to profit because simple scuffs are now going to need to be completely repainted, instead of just buffed.

This is one reason that Honda makes most of their cars with robots in the US now.
