What the title says, I am wanting to do a mini me swap(d16y7 block y8 head) fully built. With around 13-15psi daily and 25-30psi racing. I am wanting to do a Z6 tranny, but how much horsepower can it hold stock? With a stage 4 clutch.

hit or miss, you dont have any other choice than to use that trans, its just as strong as the other d series trans. ive saw them bust at 150hp and then again ive saw some with 300

good luck kid.... you have lofty goals lol

its possible, but more less this will be a full drag car with a d series with that kind of hp

Full drag set-up, but still daily driven with the boost tuned down xD

as far as i know theres not much you can do to beef up your d series transmission. just have a spare one ready, and drive it like a grandma unless you are at the track.

the d16y8 is the best of all D series trans it has diffrent shift forks that are stronger as far as upgrading it to take more power you can look into installing a quaife and there are also carbon syncros available for it along with custom final drive ratios

Okay, so for power a y8 tranny but isn't a Z6 tranny geared better?

y8's and z6's are very close if not exactly geared the same. good luck pushing 4-500 horse... sleeve the block.. d's are usually only good for 250-300hp after that you get into longetivity problems... go B...

Im not saying they arent great trannys, but i have a stage 5 competition 4 puck clutch, only making 235whp, 190 torque and i threw a rod inside my tranny straight threw it.. nice 2 inch whole threw the bell housing and out the other side. Great times. Make sure if you use the Z6 trans, get LSD, and a quaife and have a back up trans ready.

I've seen D's push well over 500whp on a stock internals. Granted probably wont last long but its both possible and if was built would be able to do it all day long. D series engines utilize more torque then any other honda engines. Ive seen a single cam run 9 seconds. Built by a shop.. cant remember the name off hand. but you get the idea.

no d has ever made 500 on stock internals a B motor has trouble doing it hell my D16Y7 streches the head bolts and it only makes 245 at the wheels

I am not going to run Stock internals, planning on full port polish sleeved, cammed, cam gears, light weight pullies the whole 9 yards, not gonna skimp on anything. So the weak part of build will be cv joints and tranny?

the entire axel, due to not being equal length, are inheritnly weak.
and the open differential isn't strong either.

a quaiffe and a set of driveshaftshop or raxels axels ($2k alone) will solve the problem.

No, don't go B. It'd be backpedaling at this point. Stick with your D, and sleeve the damn thing.

To the OP: I believe you can get new guts for the transmission from MFactory, MFactory Close Ratio Gears

If you want different ratios, call them up and talk to them, they're pretty cool.
