Well I am hoping that I am in the right section at the moment.I am new here and hardly know anything about imports in general. In the past I have mainly had domestic cars and this is why im not familiar with this information.I just recently bought a 93 del sol with 173k on mileage it runs great and looks better.I personaly bought this car for me and my wife just to get around in for about a 6 month period then we would modify it and have some fun.Now that we have it I tend to just like to hit the gas and play around a little. In doing this I noticed the thermostat go up all the way and so now I know as long as I keep my foot out of it then it will be fine. This comes to my main point now I apologize for the lengthy explanation.I would like to start modifying early and I am wondering if this is just because im young and dumb.I have 3,500 in the bank at the moment and am wanting to go with an h22 swap however I have an auto and would like it to be swapped over to a 5 speed. The shop down the street is asking for 5 grand for the swap so can you please give me your personal opinion.Thank you

why throw 5 grand into a car worth 2 unless if thats the price for engine,swap,5spd tranny and swap

I know you have the car already, but if you are serious about a swap, you may want to consider something else, especially if you want to resell sometime down the road. It is amazing how fast the dolloars add up once you start a swap. I agree that you can find someone elses swap for 5k and and probably have something a little better than an auto Delsol. Good luck with what ever you try!

an h22 in a sol is going to be hacked regardless of how talented u are once its h22 thats it your stuck with it.... as far as making it a five speed if you have a weekend and some basic car knowledge itll cost you around 500 in parts (junk yard stuff)... but hondas are really easy to work on grab a haynes manual and its all step by step and if you run into a problems you have the forum to search if you cant find it just make a thread... but as far as swaping motors and stuff theres much beter ideas than an h22 cheaper 2... any way good luck with whatever you decide to do... and i have a del sol that was auto now a 5 speed, so i know all about the swap just post your ?'s.

Go for a B18C1. That H22 is going to throw the weight balance off a lot. I've even heard of someone in an EG hatch with an H22 that had rolled the hatch, had the front clip break off during that due to the weight of the motor.

A B18C1 comes stock in an integra and would be a lot more torque for your lighter car, and believe me you'll feel it.

Also, for 5k, you can buy all the necessary tools and do it yourself with a new timing belt, clutch, and other lil stuff along the way.

for 5k buy something that already has some mods done to it and even the engine you're looking for. Unless you are just dying to have that particular set up (which is not that appealing in the first place) I would go a different route if I were you and check out the b series swaps or with the D series you have look at the mini me. The auto to manual is fairly basic and not that expensive and I would definitely do that.

the key word is heard..

there is only a 35lb difference between motors...

yeah but the weight difference is enough that you will have to put all new beefed up suspension in it, more money!!

From my friend who got the info from Charlie Rhyu, owner of Top Setup.

Theoreticly, I should be able to find pictures or video of this. We'll see how bored I get, maybe I'll look.

BTW what's the difference in weight between an H22 w/ trans and a D16 w/ trans?
