So, I'm about ready to kill someone. Here's the situation.
I bought an HTC Touch (aka XV6900) from a store on eBay. Phone worked great. I cracked the screen (the LCD screen, not the digitizer), and took it to Spokane Wireless for repair. They replaced the LCD with a brand new screen. I go to pick up the phone, and there is nothing on the screen. I asked the guy, and he claims that the problem was that new parts "sometimes just don't mingle with old parts."

Okay, whatever.

Thinking that I could diagnose the problem myself, I brought the phone home. I charged it, and was studying it one day when I noticed that the screen is actually working, it's almost as if it is just not lighting up. The display is there if you angle it right in the light (though barely visible), and the touch function works perfectly.

I have taken the phone back to Spokane Wireless, who says they cannot fix it. HTC will not directly service this phone since it is a Verizon model, yet my local Verizon store will not touch it.

Any ideas as to what could be going on with the phone? Hell, any idea where to take it? I'm about ready to just say fuck it and trash it.

Thanks in advance.

i would end up giving it to a friend of mine to mess with.. he's good at crap like that

Haha, alright. I'll keep that in mind. This is extremely frustrating because I'm into the phone for $330 now and it still doesn't work. Nice.

wtf kinda crap is that. never heard of "old parts not minglying." its not like replacing ram. did you get charged for the "repair?"

im willing to bet he didnt do it correctly. it sounds like the replacement lcd screen was bunk or he didnt hook up the lights. lcd consist of a liquid display and a back light. b

did you try calling verizon corporate? most local cell phone stores dont have techs. that do that kind of work. its usually sent to the factory.

anyway, good luck. it just sounds like the lcd wasnt hooked up right and the back light isnt working. see if you can adjust the backlight setting somehow. also ive tried searching and it seems like some owners are having the phone just black out without a lcd replacement. the problem has been alluded to a rom or driver issue. see if you can update to a newer rom.

Hey Matt, that is a slide phone, correct? It sounds to me like the connection between the keyboard part and the screen is not making good contact. This happens a lot on slide phones, especially if it is just one single wire making that connection. My suggestion is to take it to Verizon, if that is your provider and have them check it out. You could also walk into a Sprint store, as many, if not all down here have on-site techs and have them look at it. Mind you if you did that they may look at you funny and charge you a few bucks to fix it. Let me know what ends up being the problem and good luck my friend.

if its the original touch it doesn't slide. im using one to type this now. I don't think verizon even sells that so its probably why they won't service it. what I would do is go to sprint and ask to talk to a tech. offer him 10 bucks and see what he can do for you. they don't sell then anymore but they still service them. mine crapped out on a plane a couple weeks ago and a friend who's a tech was able to just switch it out for a new one.

Thats exactly what I was thinking, he probably didn't hook something up right. I took it back to him. He apparently "cleaned" it and it still doesn't work. I'll try the rom, see if that fixes anything. This is frustrating as hell.

Hey Luis, its just a touch screen, no sliding function. I did end up taking it to Verizon, and they won't touch it. I'll probably have to call and ask them.

Alright, I'll go try that tomorrow. Thats actually a really good idea, thanks a lot man.

I'll let you all know what happens tomorrow at Sprint. If nothing, I think I'm going back to Spokane Wireless to raise some hell.

Holy crap! Don't I feel like a monkey's uncle now. WOW! I was going by the one that a guy at work has that is both a touch screen and slides to reveal a keyboard. Yeah, I need to get more sleep nowadays. Wooo!

Why won't Verizon touch it though? If they make the phone it doesn't make sense to me. What did they tell you?

Haha! I know what you're talking about, I think its the Touch Diamond or something like that.

Well, I took it to the store close by, and they told me that they don't repair phones, nor can they send it out. I'm guessing I'll have to call Customer Service or something and send it elsewhere.

So, I owned Spokane Wirless today, epically.

I went to Sprint, handed the phone to a tech and said "Fix it and I'll give you $100 cash, right now." (even set the bills on the table)

He looked it over, and said "well I can fix it, but not right this second"
Me- "What exactly is wrong with it?"
Tech- "The screen is faulty, that's why the backlight is not functioning."
Me- "Funny you should say that, I just had the screen replaced by Spokane Wireless."
Tech- "Seems you know what you have to do, haha, have a good one."
Me- "Yup, thanks for your time."

So on my way up to Spokane Wireless, I called HTC Customer Support. Got to talk to a Tech there, and asked him where the source of the backlight in the phone is.
Tech- "Well, it's actually built into the screen on that phone, which.."
Me (interrupting)- "Right on, thanks, thats all I needed to know." Click.

I get to Spokane Wireless, fuming mad because I had run all over hell and back to try and fix the damn thing, when it was their fault all along.

Steve (the Tech at Spokane Wireless) opens the phone up once again, and diagnoses it with a different problem than the last time, this time he says that it needs a new screen.
Me- "So why didn't you tell me that when I brought it back up here the last time, instead of giving me some bullshit excuse?"
Steve- "I didn't really know what was wrong."
Me- "Funny that I do my research, and now you do."
Steve- "Sorry, man."
Me- "Yeah, okay. Let's just get the fucking thing fixed so I can use it again. This has already been a big enough hassle for both me and you."
Steve- "Okay, I'll get a new screen on the way ASAP and give you a call when it arrives."
Me- "Okay, thanks. Pleasure doing business."
Steve- "Not a problem, sorry for the inconvenience."

Epic.

They even agreed to refund part of my money, which I wasn't really expecting, but I'll happily take it after this mess.

that's pretty bad ass. glad the sprint thing at least put you in the right direction. Id have thrown in an interrupting FAIL! for good measure. hope they don't f it up a second time!
